Ibuprofen is NOT a safe medication for a dog. Occasionally, BUFFERED aspirin can be given, in an appropriate dose, every 12 hours...not every 4-6 hours like people are able to take it.
You might also look into a Glucosamine supplement if you haven't already. Glucosamine can be helpful when taken regularly.

NO! Ibuprofen is not safe. Rimadyl is expensive but if it was effective ask your vet about Tramadol. Some vets consider it a controlled substance but it is incredibly effective - and cheap. Rimadyl for my 8 yr old shepard is $94 month - tramadol is $16!!
If you must use an otc drug for comfort - aspirin. But if he's been on rimadyl there is a week (7day) waiting period before it is safe to give the aspirin. (you have to make sure the rimadyl is out of his system)

Definitely not. Ibuprofen is for humans not dogs. Go and speak to your vet and explain the cost is too much for rimadyl and see if there is an alternative.

I asked my vet this a couple of years ago (about my poor old aging GSD) he went absolutely ballistic at me, never ever give your dog Ibuprofen!
I would like to add here that I know my vet well (over 30 years) so he never minces words with me! I trust him implicitly,

You really should ask a vet or look it up on the net. Many human drugs are fatal to animals.
***** Please note ,, I found this on another Question and Answer about Ibuprophen and pets***********
Bufferin (aspirin) can be given to dogs for pain. Be very careful with NSAIDs (Aleve, Ibuprophen, etc.) because I killed my daughter's little dog by giving him ibuprophen. It shut down his kidneys. Tylenol will definitely kill a dog. Aspirin is the only thing I would feel safe to use.

think about it how big is your dog, the dose should always be checked by your vet, you could overdose the dog, and ibuprofen can cause upset tummies in us , so think what it could do do a dog,if you have a pdsa near you have a word with them they may be able to help, add codliver oil and primrose oil to his diet, it will take a while before you see a benifit but it compliments the prescrinbed medication, and in mild arthritse dose help a lot, on its own, but always check with the vet .

No it can cause major problems, internal bleeding I think. I once gave some to my dog 'cos he had a bad back, when I took him to the vet and told him what I'd done he gave me a pescription and I had to get an antidote from the chemist....even more expense!
