This may be abuse:
Check out this website. Read both top and bottom. If it still seems like abuse talk to a local women's shelter, call a crisis line, tell Any public servant because they have to mandatory report (check laws in your state), just talk to someone in authority.

She can talk to her family if she really wanted to. She just desires her boyfriend more at the moment and chooses not to so don't completely blame the boyfriend. She sounds like a very lost human being, needy and insecure. She needs more time to grow. Be nice to her verbally, but don't feel obliged to be her mother. She's a grown woman. Sometimes, we learn our greatest lessons when we get hurt. If someone is there to clean up our mess for us, we learn nothing. Still, show verbal empathy towards her, but you have yourself to take care of. It doesn't sound like she values your help anyway so stop sticking your neck out.

He is controlling and is probably abusing her. Abusers separate their victim from their friends and family and break down their self esteem. Talk to your sister and see if you can get her to open her eyes. She should listen to Kelly Clarkson's song "Because of You." That is how she will end up.

a bigger problem then just not talking to the family. but that the
first sign of controlling behavior.

Sounds like power, control, manipulation, emotional abuse, isolation, and possible physical abuse. Yeah it sounds like some domestic violence red flags.
