Aum is the most mysterious word in the Universe.: AUM is thought to be the Eternal Sound. IT IS THE SOUND of GOD THAT GIVES CONSCIOUSNESS TO THE MOTHER NATURE TO START ACTING.

Aum has three sounds A...U....M. " A " signifies the beginning of the universe. U signifies the life period of universe and M signifies the destruction of the Universe. Hence Om is the only word which notifies the three main work of God that is creation, operation and destruction of srishti (Universe). This represents the three first forms of God viz. are Brahmaa (creator), Vishnu (operator) and the destructor (The Shiva).

Most of the mantra in Hinduism start with the word AUM, because AUM is the consciousness and the other words in a mantra are Nature or Prakriti. AUM in itself is a complete Mantra and its chanting is sacred and brings enlightenment. It is truely called MAHA MANTRA.

It does not belong to any language...it is primodal vibration of the consciousness which created the universe

AUM has four steps A...U....M and the last one silent

A = Physical plane , wake-state of mind, Beginning,Brahmaa, Raj

U = Astral Plane, dream state of mind, Manifestation,Vishnu,Sat

M = Causal Plane, dream-less state , Destruction,Rudra,Tam

Fourth unspoken sound = Turiya, beyond universe, Enlightened state

AUM is a great mantra. It is a Sagun Mantra, Nirgun Mantra and Beeja Mantra alll in One

Recitation of Aum brings peace and happiness, Astral Travels and finally Enlightenment

AUMMMMMM

The symbolism associated with "om" is the beginning and continuity of creation. "om" is said to be the primeval sound that heralded the creation of the universe. Hence the vibrations of this sound pervades the universe. All creation, preservation and destruction in the universe, with which Lord Brahma, Lord Vishnu and Lord Shiva are associated, takes place under the aegis of these cosmic vibrations.

OM is said to contain with it the 3 sounds A-U-M, which is the essence of all reality and the universe.

A is said to be the essence of Lord Brahma.. the Creator... power of Creation from which all things arise.

U is believed to be the Essence of Lord Vishnu... the Sustainer, the nurturer who like a mother nurtures the child to get stronger and grow.

M is seen as the Essence of Lord Shiva ... the Destroyer of which all things will eventually lead to in order for the cycle to be refreshed, rested and renewed.

Combined together A-U-M forms OM the sound of which contains all of creation..from the heavens, To the seas, to the earth, to the ethers to the hells.

OM is in all things around us, eg. The 4 Seasons from Spring's creation to Winter's destruction where all live Rests. Our very lives from birth to death... even in our sunrise to sunset is a reflection of the mystical sound OM

Aum (also Om, Devanagari , Chinese: 唵) is a mystical or sacred syllable in the Dharmic religions.
It is placed at the beginning of most Hindu texts as a sacred exclamation to be uttered at the beginning and end of a reading of the Vedas or previously to any prayer or mantra.
The Mandukya Upanishad is entirely devoted to the explanation of the syllable.
The Sanskrit name for the syllable is praṇava, from a root nu "to shout, sound, praise", verbal pra-nu- being attested as "to make a humming or droning sound" in the Brahmanas, and taking the specific meaning of "to utter the syllable om" in the Chandogya Upanishad and the Shrauta Sutras.
More rarely used terms are akṣara or ekākṣara, and in later times omkāra becomes prevalent.
