And he is a very unattractive baby? I know all of God's childern are beautiful, but I am guessing that this grandma is constantly asking me this and saying how beautiful her grandson is because she is insecure. How many times do I have to be in an awkward postion without hurting any feelings? What do you do about this?

I honestly think she is insecure. I have never had to tell people "isn't she beautiful" regarding my babies. People automatically complemented them. I have never heard anyone with a beautiful baby literally have to ask people to compliment their offspring. There has to be some kind of insecurity if it is CONSTANT. If the baby was really attracitve and she was always saying how beautiful her baby was then it would be vainity.

The harm is when someone goes in your face and asks a questions and you have to continue to lie-it gets tiring. Once is one thing, stop making me constantly lie. Did you ever watch Seinfiled? I think there was an episode on that.

Maybe she knows he is unattractive and she is checking to see if others feel the same way. Maybe she feels guilty for feeling the way she does. So she over compensates by saying isn't my grandson beautiful?

Gosh, that's difficult. I am always for telling the truth, but sometimes being TOO transparent can end up hurting feelings.
I would say your best bet might be to change the "subject", so to speak, while still keeping the focus on the baby.
In other words, when she asks, "Isn't my grandson so beautiful?", you can say something to the effect of, "I would love to meet the little guy sometime". Of course, smile while you're saying it so she feels better about things.
Good luck--I know you'll figure something out, without lying. ;)

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, as they say. Your children (and grandchildren) are the most beautiful little creatures you will ever lay your eyes on. Not to say that your children aren't cute, but I guarantee you see them a little differently than the general public. It's not fair to call this grandma insecure. She's proud of her grand baby, and that's all there is to it. Just be polite and say "Yes, he is"!

well its nice that she loves and adores her grandson so much wouldnt you rather that than a grandma turning around and saying "cant wait till i give him back to he's mother he's a little p*ick" she probably cant get over how beautiful he is to her in her eyes just like your kids are beautiful in your eyes but probably not everyone elses. What harm is she doing really and if it bothers you that much instead of saying her grandson is "not attractive" behind her back to a tonne of strangers why not say something to her?? maybe you cant think of anything to say to her because its such a petty thing to complain about??

Say yes he is, and then comment about its amazing how kids at that young age change so much and so rapidly as they grow. That way, if she is insecure, she will have hope the kid will get cuter, which he very well may...

just say yes he is and change the subject. if she insists on staying on the topic ask her something else about him, like is he crawling or whatever. He might not look great to you but she probably genuinely finds him breathtakingly beautiful.

you should just say "yes, he is".

Just lie and you won't hurt her feelings. Besides, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

just appease grandma. What harm are you doing by agreeing that she has a lovely grandson, even if he isn't?
