You definitely have a good point. It doesn't matter what question we ask, we already have preconceived ideas about what the answer should be. For example, if you ask the question, "Does god exist?" and you believe in god ... you will be most likely to pick the best answer that supports the idea that god exists. If you don't believe, you'll probably pick the answer that best explains why god doesn't exist. It usually doesn't matter how good the arguments are for the other side -- we go with the most intelligent (or in alot of cases in the section, the most humorous) answerer who agrees with our position.
Alot of the questions that I ask are intended to make "the other side" think, so I try very hard to read the opinions of those who disagree with me ... and if someone makes a valid point, then I'll choose them, even if its not backing up my own ideas. However, we're more likely to see validity in our opinions then in those of others ...
If you're interested in maintaining a high percentage of best answers, this is probably not the section to frequent. After all, best answers are relative here ... there aren't really any right and wrong answers.
Also, we usually have alot of inside jokes, so its hard for someone who isn't familiar to get a best answer in that situation. Not being rude, just honest.

In a lot of categories the best answer is what the other person wants to hear. The way I see it sometimes that is the best answer for that person. I've learned a long time ago that here the correct answer often isn't the best answer. I do the best I can. Sometimes I get picked. Most of the time I don't and neither do others. So don't take it too serious. Lots of time I see people with the correct answers get by passed. I try not to do that, but I'm sure I maybe have at times. I still don't want staff picking them because as I said what might be best answer is not my best answer especially in religion or answers with opinions.

Good question!!!
That is so true.
The Bible refers to people having itching ears. What that means is they want you to tell them they are ok and just the nice stuff.
But it is the truth that counts.
Did you know that no religious prophet has ever claimed to BE GOD except Jesus. Then, Jesus backed up what He said to prove it. By the way, NO writings of that day said His resurrection was Not true. Don't you think if it never happened someone who didn't believe would have told??????
FOOD FOR THOUGHT! HUH:? If you are really brave pick up
"Evidence That Demands a Verdict" by Josh Mc Dowell, a former atheist and agnostic, turned Christian there was so much evidence he could not deny. Interested, get the facts. This is the book to have. That way you can be factual and not just speaking your mind. Accept Jesus and we'll also see each other in Heaven. Jesus loves you.
Satan even hates the people who accept him. How sick is that!
Pays to compare, doesn't it!??
Many, including Islam point to Jesus as the Savior.
So, look at the claims of JESUS. Read the book of St John. It is the most beautiful writing style too.

Some people actually are looking for answers, so when they find the help they want, they will acknowledge it. Some people are asking questions to make people THINK, and reward the best possible answer with those points.
Personally, I love a good debate, and will sometimes ask debate-instigating questions, just to see if somebody out there can come up with a convincing statement. I'm rarely disappointed!

I have a lot of trouble choosing a best answer usually. Either there are hardly any serious answers or there are two or three really good ones. I try to judge based on how thoroughly and thoughtfully the question was addressed.

A question given the title doesnt mean that it is the best answer that could possibly be given for the question, it means that in the asker's eyes it is the most valid answer given on this occassion. Or in the eyes of the voters. Its still just human opinion.

These questions do often come down to mere opinion, but I have no problem picking a very good answer that I completely disagree with as Best Answer.
In the absence of quality, I have to go with someone who agrees with me.

answer each question with what they want to hear, but I have

Who says Best Answer *is* the correct answer? It's not like people go to Yahoo! Answers to get answers to questions that matter.

That is very true. I will choose the best answer only to those answers I agree with.
So I guess the best answers here may not be the correct answer :)
