God probably intended these unearthly shapes and sounds to get Ezekiel's attention (wouldn't it have had your attention?). Some have guessed that the meaning was: the intersecting wheels may have suggested God was on the move. God's sovereign power appeared in this vision. The vision seems bizarre only because it describes things that are FAR beyond human experience.

Eye: Ezekiel's "wheel" is a descriptive literary picture of the events occurring around the immediate vicinity of God's throne in Heaven. Some Scientific writers and UFO buffs describe this as evidence of UFO phenomenon in outer space. Of course, this would depart from the traditional description of aliens as being little green or gray "men".

The course of the sun through the solar year. That is the key to understanding all apocalyptic symbolism. The cherubim, for example, are calf/Taurus, lion/Leo, eagle/Scorpio, and man/Aquarius. The wheels within wheels represent the Semitic cosmology: wheel 1 = planets/sun/moon, wheel 2 = moveable stars/zodiac, wheel 3 = fixed stars, etc.
The Merkava of God is nothing less than the firey chariot of Apollo.
