When ever my mom yells at me, or me and my brother fight, or something he gets in their face and growls, and only threatens to bite them, he raises all the hair on his back and gets between whoever it is, and me and wont let them move untill i okay it, or reassure him, but he would never bite them. i have had dobes all my life and i know thats what they are bred for but, i have never had one who was this protective of me. i mean its a good thing sometimes, like when i was at the petstore and a man kept following me, and finally just grabbed me when i was trying to hide, thank god i had Hammer, or i dont know what would have happend. but in the end the man had 62 stiches, and was arrested. but i dont know, any ideas whta i could do to reduce the over protetion of me? he does listen when i tell him to stop, or its okay, and he only reacts when im stressed, scared, or upest. but still what else do u think i can do with out taking ALL the protection out of him, and obvioulsy, i need
it!

Dobies, as with other guard breeds have the tendency to act protectively of their owner when they sense danger. The problem for you is that Hammer may have trouble identifying which threats are real and which are normal. A dog behaviorist could help you correct these problems by letting your dog know that your mom and other family members are not a threat.
Hope this helps.

I have the same problem with my dobie. She is almost a yr old, and has been around me almost 12 hours a day, everyday, and when somebody yells at me or acts "strange" towards me, she will immediatly get at my feet and just stand there and stare them down, and will start a very low growl. But as soon as I touch her, she will lay down and go about her business. She has never ever bit anyone, but has "told" them that She is my mommy and im going to protect her. I am very very lucky to have that because I am only 5 ft 100sih lbs, and there are a few times where I am very luck as to have her around me.

Once your "protective" dog has bitten somebody, the dog is in danger of being put down by the authorities. You should know that there have been successful lawsuits by people who have been bitten in the process of committing a crime and then sued the victims of their crime over the bite. Keep in mind that a lot of people hate dogs and are afraid of them, and they are prejudiced against guard dogs, and Dobies are sensitive to people's responses. I think you should get a really good book on training him and spend time working with him. He obviously wants to please you, so you will be able to do a lot with him, and he will enjoy it. He needs to learn to listen and pay attention, but more than just obedience, a Dobie needs to understand what his "job" is, because he wants to work. He will be a less nervous and happier dog if he understands what his job is every minute. Dobies are so sensitive and dedicated that he can learn lots of words and hand gestures for lots of jobs. I love Dobies.

Sweet mercy go to the local university and get whoever their behaviorist is to have a look at the dog but if your dog threatens your family it is time for serious intervention.
Hammer is not under your control because if he was the guy wouldn't have had 62 stitches. He would have had a bite and antibiotics. It is not alright for your dog to threaten and control your family even during an argument.
Dogs react based on the vibes we are giving off. You need to control your own emotions and get on some obedience work with the dog. If you can't control your dog you are going to have him shot by the police, put to sleep or give him to someone who can control him.

Please do not say your Dobe will by no skill chew every person. Aggression is shown by skill of elevating the hair on his returned and growling. Dobes are patently shielding dogs and that i've got spoken to many breeders and running shoes in the previous who say there is no such subject as an overprotective Dobe. Overprotective skill VERY ALERT and ON shield, yet overprotective does not recommend growling and perilous to chew and elevating neck hair. in case you experience your dogs has an argument with aggression (growling, elevating hair on returned, threatening to chew) then you definately could be consulting a expert dogs coach in the previous you have blood on your arms. i'm not preaching to you, i'm a sufferer. I had 5 stitches put in my left hand to close a bone-exposing, tendon tearing dogs chew. it ought to have been worse. the owner replace into sued in courtroom and the dogs replace into destroyed because of the fact the choose deemed the dogs 'incorrect' for a house ecosystem using his 'overprotective' demeanor. the only past issues the owner of that dogs had replace into that the dogs had growled at some human beings and 'threatened to chew' somebody. interior the vendors words, "he's incredibly a gentle dogs, by no skill bit every person in the previous" Please take your dogs's alerts heavily and seek for suggestion from a expert. this way, you are able to watch for a truthful dogs AND a kinfolk who's delicate around your Dobe. desirable needs

A lot of it is going to be determined by your own state of being. When you'r scared, stressed, or upset, he's going to detect all that, and will react to all your situations accordingly. If you act like everything is cool, then he'll be fine. Granted, this is going to take some doing on your part, but it'll help, because basically he feels everything you do. Hope this helps.

Dobies are like that, especially with their owners, they have this instinct to protect what is like their babies and you are viewed as the pup. If your dog is under control at all times then your dog is fine, it's good to have a pet that would do anything in it's power to help or protect you.
