ok i live in colorado springs and i know the answer to this question because many of my friends go to New LIfe.
1 they paid him a severance because his contract called for a severance of 1/3 of the remainder of his contract if he were terminated for any reason.
2 Many of the people of New LIfe gave him money to help pay for Rehab and counseling and any other expenses that may arise during his healing process. despite what so many people on here think the vast majority of Christians are kind loving people who wanted nothing more than to help ted through this tough part of his life. over all he was a good pastor and a very good man. Ted has also made a pledge to pay the 70,000 back to the church when he can. I am praying for you ted.

I don't know about your figure; the $100,000 package may be an inflated picture!

Ted Haggard recieved a severance package from the church. He was the equivalent of an executive at this particular church; such a package is intended to support him and his family in the time he is without work (while he is looking for another job). Since he was under contract with the church, they had to honor the severance package, no matter how large or small it was, when he left their employment.

At least his wife and kids won't starve or be homeless. They have suffered enough under his care!

If you recall, Rev. Haggard lied about every aspect of his affair with the other gay man, and about the illegal drug purchases. The money is likely a way of getting him out quickly so he can relocate, and hopefully keep his mouth shut so he won't cause further embarrassment with more lying -- sort of a severance package and an incentive to go away.

Sometimes it is easier just to pay for something to go away. It will cost far less in the long run.

I have not read that.

If so, who gave him this money. In america people are free to give money to whomever they wish.

I doubt highly that our government gave him anything.

They probably just wanted him gone without anymore bad publicity for their super-church/mall/restaurant combo.

Where did you read that? What is it, movie rights? Didn't get it from the church as far as I know. Hey, as far as you not smoking or drinking, forget it. You gossiper.
