Was Mahli the son of Levi?

Ezra 8:18
Mahli, the son of Levi....
1 Chronicles 23:6
the sons of Levi, namely, Gershon, Kohath, and Merari.

So what is it this time, a mis translation, confusion, taken out of context? I was told that the bible is the word of god and is 100% right.

Obviously this is a mistake in the Bible. I don't understand why anyone would get all excited about it though, in light of the far larger errors such as the claim that there is a God, that we will live again after dying, and that there is a "spirit" or "soul".
