I think one of the best answers--for the long run!--is not to play with kitty with your HANDS. That's a wise start. The hydrogen peroxide, & neosporin is good for now. Also anti-bacterial cream. No, they don't "mean" to hurt but it hurts anyway! A couple of times when I was playing with a mouse on an elastic string, (please no toys with button eyes they can swallow!) my kitty just jumped up & gave me a "love bite." I did all the stuff, but it got infected anyway, & I had to go on antibiotics for ten days. For the scratches, (or bites!) cover the area with a bandaid & be sure to clean it thoroughly every day before adding new ointment. If it's really bleeding, put the hydrogen proxide on a clean cotton pad & apply pressure until it stops bleeding. It will heal a lot faster. I can now tell when my kitty is "thinking" of a love bite because her pupils get dilated, & I withdraw & say calmly but sternly "NO." If it seems she's going to persist, I simply ignore her, & she's getting the message!

clean the scratches with soap and water, then apply on some neosporine. it really does cut the heal time down. I've done this with all the scratches i get from my pup.

you may want to get some of those caps for the nails. if you don't like those, you can take a small nail clipper and trim the sharp points of the nail. make sure you only clip the VERY TIP. don't go to far in and clip the vein.

Just make sure that you clean the cuts out with soap and water, and peroxide. There is a lot of bacteria in cat litter and it gets on their claws. Cat scratch fever IS a real disease. They will heal on their own though, unfortunately theres not much you can do. Cat scratches are the norm if you have a kitten!

Don't use your hands to play with a cat. What is cute in a kitten will rip your hand to shreds as an adult. The cat will always associate your hand with being a toy. Use some other toy or a toy on a stick to play with your cat. If you get scratched, wash the wound immediately with soap and put some rubbing alcholol on it to kill any germs.

Not to sound like an alarmist but, you might need to see your doctor. Any wound that does not heal needs attention, it can be a sign of underlying illness.

If you are diabetic, that may be the cause of your slow healing.

Did the scratches at least form scabs over them?

Peroxide or soap and water right away and some antibiotic cream after that will keep scratches from getting infected and help them heal. It seems to me that you might want to get something like a heavy sock to wear when you play with kitty. It will protect you, and when you aren't there to play, if kitty is used to playing with the sock as she grows up, she will probably enjoy playing with it by herself, especially if you put some catnip in it.

Wash your hands a lot... and get used to the feel of scratches on your hands.. unless...

Our cats very seldom scratch me because I stop playing with them as soon as they scratch me.. it takes a bit of time but after a while they learn that I will play/pet them much longer if they do not use their claws.

They are gross usually cause they swell up a bit, I usually put ice on mine or a cold cloth, it helps the swelling to go down and the redness to lessen. But there isnt a whole lot else to do, just tell anyone who looks at you funny that you have a kitten, they'll probably understand :)

just leave them alone and let them heal, I have a cat that used to jump on my back and start clawing me, he doesn't do it n e more though but I just let them heal, actually when I went to sleep that night the next day it looked a lot better. You might be able to find some cream for it at the pharmacy

Hi, as the fur mommy of a kitten myself I understand how you feel. My hands always look assaulted. They usually heal on their own, I don't put anything on them but if your kitty is drawing blood, you may want to consider buying some grooming clippers and trim the claws, be careful not to cut the quick. This will make them blunt and less likely to draw blood. I clip my angel monsters claws once a week.
