The same reason anything "designer" is expensive...someone said, "wow..this is special..let's charge a lot for it" then others said, "wow..that must be special 'cuz they're charging a lot for it."

I agree! My wife and I got a $150 gift card for Pottery Barn as a wedding present over a year ago. I don't see the value in their stuff.

I dont know, but I wouldnt waste my hard earned money on it!!! If you're gonna spend heavy money buy QUALITY !!! Go to a REAL FURNITURE STORE -- there are probably several in your town (I do not mean: that BigBox store that says you dont have to pay for 20 yrs aka 'RoomesTooWent' -- none of their furniture has a brand name on in and most people I know regret buying it as it doesnt hold up). Get a good magazine on furniture or get a book at the library and take an hour to learn about QUALITY IN FURNITURE b4 you buy -- the time you spend will pay you back many many times over in the future!!! bUY CLASSIC DESIGNS that wont go out of style!!! call a decorator!!! They get paid from the sale-purchases you make, you dont pay them and you get alllll their knowledge and a great looking place!!! They take you to furniture stores and builders, you pay the store or carpenter and the designer gets paid as she gets the stuff at deep discount and keeps the diff. as her payment, but you dont pay any more for the furniture, she just gets the piece at her cost, you pay retail same as you would anyway and her pay comes from the difference! But you get her years of knowledge and a great looking room or house!!!
See several designers and ask to see their portfolios until you find a designer who has the same taste as you, then GO SHOPPING !!!!! Also, her knowledge will keep you from wasting big money on junk!!! Remember one good piece that will last forever and be handed down is worth a dozen pcs of junk !!!

Pottery Barn is trying to become the "in" thing and to capitalize on it.

It's that expensive because people are willing to pay a lot for poorly made furniture.

Most of their items are made of the most expensive wood and wool. Also it is a brandname company and their aren't many of them around. Plus they don't have most of the stuff everywhere.
