once you are diagnosed with bipolar, you are pretty much stuck with it for life. the mood swings can be controlled my medication, and a diet/lifestyle change, but it is not something that can be jsut switched off. i cant understand how people can think having a mental illness is a choice....

You can't "snap out " of bipolar disorder. It's a chemical imbalance in your brain, you can't control it. Medications can help make you feel more normal, but you need to find the right ones, or the right combination of medications. If your bipolar, you need to know that it's not something you can just stop. You can try your hardest & it isn't going to change it. It's not something to be ashamed of, or to feel bad about. It's not your fault! It's a medical problem. I'm bipolar & I've been dealing with it for years. I take medication & my life is going great now. Without the medication my life falls apart. Good Luck!!!

I'm afraid one does not "snap out" of bipolar disorder. It is actually a complicated biochemical imbalance in the brain, to put it simply; and must be treated by a medical doctor, usually a psychiatrist.

I have bipolar! You don't snap out of it. You will have it the rest of your life. Taking medication helps keep it under control. There will be days that your bipolar will be out of control even on medications. My peaks are between March and April and Oct-Dec.

You do not snap out of manic depression. That is like asking someone to snap out of diabetes.
Medication and counseling are necessary to keep symptoms from getting out of control.

that's a mistake people make about psychiatric disorders;it's all in someone's head. honestly,if it were, people wouldn't know about someone's thinking being off and people wouldn't research to make newer and better medications. it's treated with medication and the problem is corrected.

Some people go into remission and stop having symptoms, but there's no way to guarantee when that's going to happen.
