I have struggled to have a relationship with God for most my life. I have found it to be confusing, aggrevating, and fear inspiring. Seems to me he has this thing for answering prayers in a rather mean fashion, so I have hard time trusting him. Is it possible to just "skip god" for the time being, and try to have a relationship with the Holy Spirit instead? I got my idea from 1 Cor 2:10 if anyone is wondering.
I just thought that in the meantime, it might help me develop spiritually, instead of having to put spirituality on the back burner while I get over my resentments.
Thanks all

The Holy Spirit works in us to bring us closer to God and also to convict us of those things in us that keep us from getting to the next level with God. When a child is learning to walk and falls, the parent will lift him on his feet and encourage him to walk again. It sounds like you are one of those kids that wants to remain on the ground and fight with the parent when he tries to lift you back on your feet. He is trying to teach you but you are fighting the lessons. Being resentful is not good either and it will take longer to learn the lessons. Allow yourself to get to know God the Father through the Holy Spirit. God loves you. Perhaps you have an issue with the "father" image and the Holy Spirit is trying to show you that you need healing and forgiveness with those issues before you can learn to trust in God as your Father.

I think believing in God is a very personal decision and when you have others telling you this and that which may or may not be true it is hard to decide what to do.
God does have his own way to do things. Some times it seems like he may be being mean but have you looked at the whole situation? Some things people call God and God never did it to begin with. Some times people get in Gods way and do things themselves and call it a God thing. It could be good or bad and they still say God did it. You've got to believe in God and trust in him as a child does. You can't just one day decide you want to ask God for help and expect him to jump for you. Especially when he already knows that as soon as you get your way your going to turn back to your old ways.
You have to give him your all.
I can tell you I don't get everything I ask for. Whether it be healing, money, a day without any surprizes or whatever I'd like that day. If it is not his will no matter what I do he would not give it to me. Some times he lets us go through things to help us learn. That helps us learn to trust in him for everything. There have been times I've asked for something and I didn't get it till later. If I'd have gotten it when I asked for it things would not have been good for me. God already knows our future and he can fore see stuff we have no idea about. If you let go an let God you will find that it is alot easier.
You don't pray to the Holy Spirit. You pray through the Holy Spirit. They Holy Spirit is a path to God.
The way it is, is you have God, He created the Heavens and the Earth and all us sinning humans. Well he had enough of us sinning humans junk so he created himself into Jesus as a human form {his son} so that he could teach us, then when Jesus was crusified he promised us he would not leave us so he left himself as the Holy Spirit here on Earth to be with us.
An easier way I was told was that. I'm a mother a daughter a sister a friend an aunt and so on so forth.
He is lots of things to us.
I think you can get over your resentment in a better way be reading the Bible. I like The Message Bible. It is awesome. You can read it like a book and understand every word.
It's really hard learning what God wants to tell you if you don't read the word. I even think that just reading one or two verses and trying to decide what is the meaning of it out of just those two verses is all wrong. But that is just me.. What I do is if I am researching and find a verse on something. I read the whole chapter and most of the time end up reading the whole book it was in say I wanted to read your verse on 1 Cor 2:10 I would end up reading 1 Cor 2:1-16 and most probably go even further and read all of 1 Cor. Just to get a reason why that was said to begin with.
I'm not telling you that you have to take my advice on this.. You do what you think is best for you. Most important though.. A good practice is when someone tells you something or gives you a scripture then tells you what it says is to go look it up for yourself. Never trust what someone else says or thinks the Bible says. First of all.. The Bible is a living book. Each time you read it you can get something totally different out of it. It depends on what you need in your life at the moment your reading it. You still get the truth but you will get different things for your life each time.
Sometimes you may think God isn't talking to you when you go around asking him stuff. Well, when you don't spend time with him.. Reading the Bible..Praying "and not for just what you want". He sees you as a stranger. How often do you give strangers stuff?
This is just my thoughts and experiences. I'd have for you to put God on the back burner when it seems you don't have a very good understanding of him. I've felt like you feel before and it can be scary and out right frustrating but you have to trust in him and a good way to do that is get to know him... The best way to do that is Read the Bible. It does make a bid difference..

Sorry this was so long but I got started and couldn't quit.
Hopefully you have a Good Reading Experience.
Really the Message Bible is the way to understand it.
Then you can read one of the other ones so you can see what they are talking about a little easier.

This is a very important thing to discover about yourself. God the Father can bring up some tough memories of fathers and father figures who have misused their authority.this is why working on our psychology is vital to having a spiritual life.
Worldly fathers should balance their male and female parts of themselves. The law is conditional love, as you sow so shall you reap. Mercy is unconditional law and associated with the mother. So if your father figure, who is supposed to be a standin for Father God is imbalanced and overly judgemental, it will affect your relationship with your heavenly father, who is actually merciful.

The trauma I'm talking about could be even something small in your childhood like being abandoned for a minute in a supermarket. God is showing himself in that way because you expect him to be that way, due to some trauma.

By all means develop a relationship with the Holy Spirit who as the Comforter can help you resolve this and be your friend.

God and the Holy Spirit are one in the same. If you pray to the Holy Spirit, you are praying to God.

The Father, the Son, the Holy Spirit ... three distinct beings, yet one. That is the Paschal mystery, the Holy Trinity.

Here is a story that I hope helps:

The Fern and the Bamboo.....

One day I decided to quit.... I quit my job, my relationship, my spirituality. ... I wanted to quit my life.

I went to the woods to have one last talk with God.

"God", I said. "Can you give me one good reason not to quit?"

His answer surprised me...

"Look around", He said. "Do you see the fern and the bamboo?"

"Yes", I replied.

"When I planted the fern and the bamboo seeds, I took very good care of them. I gave them light. I gave them water.

The fern quickly grew from the earth. Its brilliant green covered the floor. Yet nothing came from the bamboo seed. But I did not quit on the bamboo.

In the second year the Fern grew more vibrant and plentiful. And again, nothing came from the bamboo seed. But I did not quit on the bamboo".

He said. "In the third year, there was still nothing from the bamboo seed. But I would not quit.

In the fourth year, again, there was nothing from the bamboo seed. I would not quit."

He said. "Then in the fifth year a tiny sprout emerged from the earth. Compared to the fern it was seemingly small and insignificant.

But just 6 months later the bamboo rose to over 100 feet tall.

It had spent the five years growing roots. Those roots made it strong and gave it what it needed to survive. I would not give any of my creations a challenge it could not handle."

He said to me. "Did you know, my child, that all this time you have been struggling, you have actually been growing roots. I would not quit on the bamboo. I will never quit on you. Don't compare yourself to others."

He said. "The bamboo had a different purpose than the fern, yet, they both make the forest beautiful."

"Your time will come, "God said to me." You will rise high!"

"How high should I rise?" I asked.

"How high will the bamboo rise?" He asked in return.

"As high as it can?" I questioned.

"Yes." He said, "Give me glory by rising as high as you can."

I left the forest and brought back this story. I hope these words can help you see that God will never give up on you........

Never regret a day in your life.

Good days give you Happiness.

Bad days give you Experiences.

Both are essential to life.

Keep going...

Happiness keeps you Sweet,

Trials keep you Strong,

Sorrows keep you Human,

Failures keep you Humble,

Success keeps You Glowing,

But Only God keeps You Going!

The Father (God), the son (Jesus), and the holy spirit form the trinity. Each part is one in the same and all parts are the whole!

Well, if you think of God and the Holy Spirit as different entities, you're going to Hell. 1st Commandment, baby. Solid as a rock: "Thou shalt have no other gods before me". If you treat the Holy Spirit as a god, you're pissin' off the Big Man.

What about re-evaluating your whole belief system in general? I mean, lots of people believe different things. Just because the whole "God" thing is big in the US doesn't mean it's the only answer. Buddhism, Hinduism, lots of other -isms don't leave people so disturbed and "internally conflicted". There's also atheism, if you're *really* keeping an open mind.

Talk to him in the way that you feel most comfortable. If you were raised in a church that caused you to have a lot of fear of God, try to let go of that. God is love. You can talk to him about anything and you have absolutely no reason to be afraid. He wants to give you comfort but that gets to be difficult if your mind is full of fear.

That is what the Holy Spirit is for. It is given to you to teach you truth. Lead you in all truth. It gives gifts to help you pray to God the Father & Jesus. It starts of course with being born of God, born of His Spirit, cleansed by His blood, joint heirs with Jesus, part of the family of God.

The Holy Spirit is given to all born of God, the seal of Gods children until redemption day complete.

We are to pray to our Father in heaven 24/7 in spirit & truth. So, God looks at your heart. The Holy Spirit is God also, though. So, you have to understand that there is no communicating to your Father God without the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is the promised comforter.

Build up your most Holy Faith praying in the Spirit. Without faith it is impossible to please God, for those who come to God must believe that God Is, and is a rewarder to those who diligently seek Him. Also, you have to forgive others like Christ forgave you your sins and washed your sins away with His redeeming blood & cast them into the sea of forgetfulness. One can't communicate to God unless one is forgiving others also.

Also praying in spirit & truth. It is praying in the spirit and honest from the heart. God looks at an honest heart. Just be who you are, confess everything honestly. If we confess our sins, He is faithful & just to forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. (1 Jn)

Also, I would encourage you to read http://www.fathersloveletter.com Read the verses. Just a better understanding of Gods love for you.

Just recently I learned that neither of them exist. I hate to be the bearer of bad tidings, but that's the way it is.

This may explain why your prayers never got answered. I recently heard of a ten-year-old boy who prayed fervently to have his genetic defect stopped so he could have a normal life, but his prayers where never answered. His parents too believed there was a god who could answer prayer.

No difference. It's all an adult fairytale.

It's okay to not believe in God or at least religion.

It really is okay. This revelation changed my life.
