Creation date and time is an attribute of file or folder that specifies the original creation date and time of file or folder. When the file or folder is created or, which is the same, first time saved, newly made, creation date and time are recorded in file system. Ordinarily this date and time attribute is never changed afterwards since its main purpose is to indicate the original file creation date and time.

Like all file attributes creation date and time is recorded in file system in addition to file, not in the file contents. This file systems level date and time file property does not interfere with the time and date stamps that are stored in the file itself. Various programs put their own date and time records in the file contents or meta-tags like Microsoft Office products and other software. Virtually there might be a file format which at the file content level presupposes infinite number of file dates and times fixed, yet there is only one file creation date and time attribute at the file systems level per file.

With febooti fileTweak it is possible to modify creation date and time stamp of a file, folder or even group of files and / or folders on the file systems level with a single click. Modification of file date property does not changes files contents or interfere with files implicit time / date meta-tags.

File / folder creation date and time attribute notes:
Creation time precision varies from file system to file system. NTFS handles creation time stamp with 10 milliseconds precision while FAT allows to set creation time with 2 seconds precision. In fact it means that there are file system dependent precision limit of this attribute.
If a file is deleted and another file with the same name is saved in the same location, the latter file may inherit the creation date and time stamp of the first file. If it is essential to avoid this and keep precise creation dates and times of files, febooti fileTweak allows to fix it.

theres file creation date and last access date, both of these can be modified along with many other file attributes.
This can be done in windows or theres a program called properties plus that can do it also.
