About a month is the healing time of the area around but taking it out now could still let it close up really fast if you can't get the new ring in or your old one back in. Wait another two weeks to a month to give it a little more time to create some resistance for the piercing. And a hoop might not be the best depending on the placement. If your hole is too far back a ring will pull, making the final healing take longer, you could be better off with a different stud. Two to three months is good for changing a piercing on your own but if you really want it changed take the new ring with you to your piercer and ask him/her to change it for you. It is part of their job and they could do it a lot faster and easier. Hope you get it all worked out.

Wait another 4-6 weeks before changing the jewelry.

Just because it SEEMS healed doesn't mean it is. A month isn't quite enough time and you have to remember piercings heal from the outside in. Wait a few more weeks and make sure the jewelry you use is proper gauge and diameter jewelry so you don't cause pressure on the piercing.
