Because ALL laws are based on the constitution.
If any one law violations any portion of the constitution, it is deemed void and illegal... so you see, the constitution is therefore the SUPREME LAW.

As far as federal law goes, the Constitution is supreme because without the Constitution, there is no one that has the power to create any others. Without the Constitution, the President, the Congress, the Courts, and all those goofy agencies simply do not exist.
For state laws, the Constitution clearly says that if there is a conflict between the Constitution and a state law, the Constitution is supreme. The validity of this stems from the fact that the Constitution was written by the states, and had the authority to mutually agree that the federal government's ruling and law were paramount, in those limited cases where the federal government was permitted to act.

In theory no law can conflict with those mentioned in the Constitution. If a state passes a law against practicing Christianity for example, the Federal Government (The Supreme Court) would reference the 1st Amendment and deem that state law unconstitutional, thus reversing it. However, these days this practice isn't followed to the extent many people think it should be. Some believe all censorship violates the 1st Amendment, and any gun control violates the 2nd Amendment, etc.

Assuming you mean the United States Constitution. It was the foundation of the United States government and is in a way the ground layout for building further laws from it. A simple way to put it is the Constitution is the Father and all other laws are the children of it.

OUR fore fathers wrote this document called the Constitution. It was designed with great thought as the law of the land. The thought put into this document to allow it to rule the land yet to be changed with the times as it needed to be.
It was done so that the people could rule, yet here in the U.S. the people do not use their rights to go to the poles to make sure that their will is what the govenment uses.

It is the basis for all other laws in the U.S. Any law written must not contradict the Constitution or it's amendments. It would be illegal.

Everybody needs to be governed ,brought under the same umbrella to make sure everybody gets a fair share of what they deserve.
no matter how much freedom you have one must have certain set rules that are applicable to all your fellow citizens.
even nature functions by following certain set of rules which the scientists are trying to understand. likewise the constitution is also one such set of rules and restrictions imposed to maintain a healthy society. therefore it is always referred to in the judiciary.
see the nature outside-->the food pyramid-the fly to the frog;the frog to the snake;the snake to the eagle.thank you.
