According to Job1:12, God places some limitations on Satan so he is not omniscient. Satan may have thought death was the end of the Messiah. He certainly wanted Christ to fail as noted in the temptations in Matthew 4:1-11 and he thought using people such as Peter in Matthew 16:23 and Judus in John 13:27 could defeat the effectiveness if not the total mission.
Maybe what he thought is explained by who he is as explained by Jesus. Murderer and a liar, John 8:44 He is also called an accuser Revelation 12:10 and an adversary I Peter 5:8. Remember Greater is He who is in you than he who is in the world. I John 4:4

If you read the Gospels you will notice that Satan tried to kill Jesus Christ from the time of His birth -Matt 2. He continued his assassination attempts throughout Jesus' ministry, even tempting Him to jump from the pinnacle of the Temple to prove He was the Son of God -Matt 4; Luke 4. Satan knows Scripture, as is evidenced in his temptations of Jesus Christ in the wilderness, but he most likely denies their validity and disbelieves -or tries to get others to deny and disbelieve- their truth and power. This was evidenced from the beginning with Eve-Genesis 3. When Jesus was crucified, Satan hoped that death would be the final victor over Him, as it is for all mankind, and that corruption -decomposition- would eventually erase all signs of Him, as it does for all of mankind. I believe that Satan probably suspected that Jesus' death would either be the end of Him -especially if accomplished before He'd finished His Father's will- or the end of Satan himself. I seriously doubt that Satan totally comprehended the prophecies of the Bible -and still doesn't. He now knows, however, that he is a defeated enemy and that his time is short.
Satan's kingdom is full of those vying for power and control -demonic and human- and that means that the residents of that kingdom are always fighting each other. If this were not so then Satan's kingdom would be a lot more victorious than it actually is. Yet because of pride and other sins, the minions of Satan usually -if not always- defeat themselves and Satan's wishes through their bickering and selfish acts. Any kingdom divided against itself can not stand.
You can see the in-fighting within Satan's kingdom displayed throughout the Gospels. For example; there are attempts to kill Jesus for blasphemy and temptations for Him to kill Himself by jumping from the pinnacle of the Temple, but there are also temptations for Jesus to not carry out His Father's will on the cross, especially in Gethsemane and on the cross of Calvary

According to scripture...1 Corinthians 2:8..... Which none of the princes of this world knew: for had they known it, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory...You see the devil is limited in knowledge of the things of God....He can quote scripture...but the true meanings of the scriptures belong only to God ...and the children of God in whom God reveals his truths...
Satan enticed the crowds because ..apparently he thought he was going to defeat Jesus...what he did not realize was ...he became a help in getting the job done...
The same applies to us...and even in bible interpretations...the Holy Ghost gives the meanings to the children of God...not to those who God knows will choose to reject him...ever wonder why there are some who just never get what the bible is saying??...this is why
Satan has power in the air..he is limited to that...and what is spoken into the atmosphere...he hears..and he may be able to influence it's production....he can hinder...but not totally prevent...this is one of teh reasons why you don't always speak future plans...you keep them quiet until you know he can't hinder or influence...it's why when you speak thngs you must be cautious..because children of God have the attributes of God...and one of them is the ability to speak into existence...you can speak yourself into a cold or sickness...and the devil when he hears it will help you in that area...
Bottom line is God has all power....the devil is limited in power and does not know the meaning of the word ...only what is written..he can quote ..it but not understand..God bless

Obviously satan did not know that Jesus was in Christ or he would have never killed him. It is just proof that the devils resources are limited even though he is the author of death. Jesus went to his death willingly for you and for me. Jesus was created in Mary's womb by Christ, the creative aspect of God for the purpose that was fullfilled.

Would Satan know whether Jesus was going to be crucified or not? I mean, it's not like he's "God", since, according to most christians, Christianity is monotheistic, so there's only one god, right? So, unless you think Satan was a god, and are a pantheist, and hate Jesus, you can't believe Satan exists.
Thank you.

He knew it would be horror for Christ to finish his teachings with violence and death since man had always sacrificed out of fear, not love. And he knew that in order to gain entry into Heaven one had to possess an attitude of love and peace, not fear which is counter-productive. The worst part is that he was convinced that this miracle would go unknown by so many and be so misunderstood.

Not sure what he thought but I imagine he might have thought for a second, that maybe he derailed Gods plan. But he found out real quick what really happened because Jesus descended before he ascended. And we all know why he did that.

He works very hard to deceive people because he knew he was going down when Christ was resurrected. He's hell bent on a mission to take as many with him as possible.
