Didn't know about silk worms being boiled to death; yuck. Must be Modern Technology; used to be made from their web weavings--or is that just myth??
Anyway, satin can these days be horribly artificial, yes, heavy; a polyester feel; if high quality, still heavier than silk, but, yummy smooth.
Ck out a pillow case at a linen store and see what it is like.
Silks, esp. today mostly come from the East and India and are nubby, and/or semi-rough texture.
But, it doesn't have to be.
Ck out Organic Catalogs & Gaim & (forget name of catalogue) but specializes in undergarments for winter--could Google--and skiers prefer macrofiber, or silk, or silk & some blend: for Breathability. But, in sheets, could feel a bit like a t-shirt, or jersey feel. Flannel-like but softer; if you like that--go for it!
Ck out Pier 1: they have many imported silk "modern" items; you'll immed. see the difference in texture, color, etc.
Silk cannot be washed in the reg. manner; satin can or cannot be--depends on quality.
Silk MUST BE DRYCLEANED; so not eco-friendly in that sense.
For sheets, I would buy satin & a high quality:one that will hold up to washing, and one that won't have that (to me--yuck) polyester "feel."
Ck at Penny's; Bed & Bath; online specialty.
Silk Blankets: never heard of that.
Would breath nicely like wool; I have an Irish Wool Blanket I love.
Still probably needs drycleaning. Once at end of season; store properly--in plastic I would think--and even during season; protect from pantry moths: they love all fabric!!
Once you get them in your house, even w/specialty traps, hard to get rid of !!! and, come mainly from grains in kitchen.
You'll know them by their appearance; and any!!!, any grey/white sticky webbing on your clothes; esp. if soiled & waiting for the Drycleaner's. If find webbing wipe off immed. & have drycleaned.

Silk is a fiber spun by silkworms, which can be woven into various smooth or textured fabrics such as pongee, slubbed raw silk, broadcloth, velvet or satin.
Satin is a kind of fabric, usually of silk, with a smooth shiny face surface.
Your silk blankets are probably fuzzy, and silk sheets will be very smooth and probably slippery.

I think that silk is lighter, satin heavy and smooth. Some types of silk, like raw silk, are a little rough and nubby. Silk is a wonderful fabric, if it is cold it warms you up and if warm breathable so you don't get really hot.

It SOLELY, depends on the quality of sheets. But I would go with the natural fiber over the man made one. Satin is nuce if you wear PJ's to bed, but silk is usually nicer on the skin.

Yes,they will.
Satin is also more animal-friendly. Silk is spun from the carcass and crysallis of the silk worm. Once they go into their cocoons, they're boiled to death.
