First you should get off the computer and turn off your TV if you have it on. That will make it much easier because bright lights tend to disrupt sleep. Try reading a book or doing some stretches before bed. Also, dont get into bed until you are really tired. That way you trick your mind into knowing bed if for sleeping not lying there awake all night!

Count sheep
Drink warm milk before you go to bed
Have a hot bath
Play this game - go through the alphabet and choose a boy's name and a girl's name for each letter, this should have you dozing off in no time!

Watch a really long movie. Something u seen before. Nothing to interesting. But interesting enough to put it on. Lay on couch & relax. you'll dose off in mins.

try drinking some hot tea or warm milk ( i think warm milk is gross though)
listen to some soothing music or just stay up until you get tired enough to sleep!

sleep-aids helps me some times. But don't take em if you have to work an early morning shift...you will feel drained, when you wake up!
