"Knowledge" "technique" "balance" "persistence" paddle your canoe steadily and slowly but surely will ones progress be. No I don't think we need a special canoe... look around all have very similar canoes. What is special is ones desire. Just consider it an ocean of learning and testing.

Sounds like you are advocating being adrift, staying where you are as a journey, then why do you need to steer?

You are in a continuous function of change and staying on one place is not possible.
