I was reading on some site that Mothers Against Drunk Driving want to get the drinking age raised to 25. Is there any legislation being proposed to do so, and if yes, how long will it take for the law to go into effect?

Also, how long after MADD started saying they wanted the drinking age raised to 21 did it take before the federal highway act of 1984 (cut off highway funds to states with under-21 drinking ages) went into effect?

Hellllzz no!! That would never go over. In fact, although it may never happen, several states are looking at having it lowered to 18. http://www.madd.org/under21/4847 This explains why the drinking age is 21.

If the age is raised to twenty-5 it might do away with maximum criminal age college eating, yet then there would in basic terms be unlawful college eating, that's worse. Even at present, 18-365 days-olds drink illegally, and get into extra injuries than in the event that they have been eating legally.

raising the drinking age is not gonna weed out the imature people, theres a learning curve for everything, i actually think it should be lowered, so by the time that u are 21/25 or w/e u already know what ur limits are, u really think that people should start drinking when there in college, thats all those people need is to start drinking when they already have alot on their minds, having hangover after hangover when they have class and jobs that mean alot more than highschool classes, or highschool jobs.
*raising the drinking age, is not gonna keep people from drinking and driving, theres always gonna be idiots who do, doesnt matter what age u are.

In Europe, where they take a moderate attitude toward drinking, (aside from Germans), they allow kids from thirteen onward to sit in the pubs with their parents having a meal. In France, they mix water with wine into cups and give it to the kids from about fourteen onward.
It is not customary to get drunk. In France, you can fill a fifty-litre oak barrel with domestic red wine for around $100, (BYOB). It is not the cost of alcohol or its availability that causes the problem. Kids start drinking around sixteen, anyway. This problem is caused by social attitudes, what they are taught and what their parents do.
Why not drop the drinking age down to sixteen and cut taxes?
They could stop sellling the 40 oz. sugary addictive junk called coolers at convenience stores. That stuff is bad. Might as well sell moonshine made from rubbing alcohol in your backyard, (sarcastic).
