I was just there in December 2006 and I think that the best thing was the juxtaposition of old-colonial architecture next to an up-and-coming, intellectual, modern city feel. There were huge political protests going on while I was there and I really admired the fact that citizens were standing up for themselves. Cordoba was the site of the first university in Argentina and the city's focus on education and awareness is still alive today.
