Yes, very slowly. Then he went faster much faster, so fast he was a blur. And are you asking Jesus what he did with the clothes? He kept them in Heaven as a conversation piece, what do you think?

All this is explained in the Bible, read the freakin Bible!

The ascension of our Lord is a Midrashic story and should not be taken literally. Midrash is defined as a "reflection of Scripture in the light of the actual situation of God's people and the development of God's action on its history. This method elucidates the meaning of Scripture in the light of the later historical experience of God's people. This kind of interpretation often opens the door to embellishments of the sacred accounts, anachronisms and a freedom on handling and maneuvering the data that was at times a little too candid and very imaginative."

There are many stories in the Old and New Testaments which uses this literary device. In the Old Testament a good example would be the book of Chronicles which is a midrash of 1 and 2 Kings. The book of Chronicles makes the bad kings look good.

The ascension of our Lord was a spiritual ascension according to theologians. The Catholic Encyclopedia seems to support this theory.

"The language used by the Evangelists to describe the Ascension must be interpreted according to usage. To say that He was taken up or that He ascended, does not necessarily imply that they locate heaven directly above the earth; no more than the words "sitteth on the right hand of God" mean that this is His actual posture. In disappearing from their view 'He was raised up and a cloud received Him out of their sight' (Acts 1:9), and entering into glory He dwells with the Father in the honour and power denoted by the scripture phrase."

I'm pretty sure he just threw a smoke bomb on the ground, and when the smoke cleared, he was gone.
