"Ferverent prayer" does not nessicarily mean begging, it means praying "hard" if you will, by putting all of your self into this divine conversation, wheather you are asking, or thanking, or just praising the Lord.

James 1:17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.
(there is no prayer that is begging....but when you pray...believe that you have it...and according to the will of God...not wavering back and forth...
Like: believing one day...and doing right....
and the next day doing wrong in disbelief.
James 1:22 But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.
Also: When you read the word of God....it is good to read the whole chapter to gain the whole understanding...not just one verse at a time.
So that chapter...for that matter, the whole book of James is good altogether to study all at one time to get the message....and pray that the Holy Spirit reveal it's true meaning to your life. (Assuming that you have accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as your savior)

This is simply saying that the prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective. This is not begging, this is praying. When we pray to God, we are to speak from the heart and offer up our prayers honestly and sincerely....because God knows our heart anyways.
Now in this particular passage, James is speaking of prayer for healing...when we pray for healing, we should anticipate God's response. But spiritual wholeness should be our highest desire. God may OR may not bring physical healing, BUT He will ALWAYS offer wholeness and forgiveness.

I don't know in what way it could go against faith.
If your child broke his arm and came to you weeping, asking you to take him to the hospital, would you say: "Stop begging!"?
The whole matter of prayer is relationship with God. Fervent means sincere, believing.
"Begging" is what other people do; "Asking" or "requesting" is what I do!
In other words, using the "begging" label simply implies a certain hostility tothe whole idea of prayer in the first place. It is an emotional term.

I can't see how any kind of prayer would avail anything. What do people hope to accomplish by praying? If God is all-knowing, then he already foresaw your need before you asked for it, so why ask for it? To remind him in case he forgets? But wait, God is going to do HIS will no matter what, so it doesn't matter what you ask him or why, he'll go ahead do what he planned to do all along. He doesn't care what YOU want, it's all about him. And if you have faith that God's will is for your greater good, then you'll never bother asking him for anything, anyway, because doing so would be like telling God what to do and would indicate that you don't have faith in his will. So, what exactly is the point of prayer?

superkern , the most you're going to get out of this life is the least that you ask for. and so there is nothing wrong with asking for what you need . God will only give you what is good for you. just like you would not give a 3yr old a razor blade. well God is not going to give a addict drugs etc. And why would that necessarily go against faith as long as you ask if it can be his will?

I just read the whole verse, and I don't read it as begging. The Bible tells us to pray without ceasing, and I don't see that as begging. Exactly what do you think the writer of this verse is begging for.
If you want answer to prayer then praying humbley, on your knees or face. How do we get answers unless we pray?
In answer to your questio, No, it isn't begging. I don't believe there's anywhere that would tell us to beg.

Not the same as begging. And faith is rather the catylist.
Fervency in prayer is an indication of one's desperate need and proclamation to God, in faith of his ability to perform.

anytime we are seeking and understand God word that is faith period....there is no scientific evidence that the bible does any good for us it is taking a chance at it and shooting the moon and expecting results....that is faith.....faith is practice...just like baseball or anything else we have to practice chrsitianity in our lives....
praying is faith because we are asking god to do something for us....and most of the time we are asking for something that is scientifically impossible so again faith has to come in.....the scripture is refering to a prayer that is full of faith and confidence not a prayer of doubt. now when we first become christians we do have a habit of doubting its normal all we do is counteract that with practice - we are doubting first of all because it is in our minds and our minds are habit forming all we have to do is practice thinking the opposite...and of course the Grace of God will help us.
