nothing is different. they're both the same thing. weiners just appeal to children more than hot dogs do. weiners is sort of a puerile name while hot dogs aren't

In Australia hotdogs are a yummy lunchtime meal and weiners are cowardly idiots. So yes there is a difference here.

originally weiners were natural casings where hot dogs weren't, most hot dogs today when made are put in disposable plastic casings that are removed before packaging.
