Truly I can think of no similarities. Depending on your perspective Vietnam was either a war to stop the spread of communism or a nationalist struggle against Euro-American colonialism. Either way you don't have a match for the English Civil War.

The English Civil War was a struggle of parliamentary government vs. monarchial absolutism. In the end England gained a form of government that continues to exist to the benefit of the United Kingdom.

Vietnam united again as a single nation free from foreign influence and today provides products you can buy at your local Wal-Mart. Try to find something in Wal-Mart made in England...

well oliver cromwell and the communists in vietnam both set up new states that had radically altered economic and social life? hmm... this is a tough question- at least for the similarities part.
