Why is it very difficult to protect tropical rain forests?

Ignorance and desperation from the poor.
Apathy from the rest of us.

People, their desire to make money, wood products that people want that can be found in the rain forests, farmers who want to grow crops that they can sell to better their lives as well as to care for their families, governments that do not have the man power to enforce laws against the cutting, if they care at all. These people only see their short term, or personal desires. They have limited concepts of how these forests affect the rest of the world. They are hungry, want a better life, and getting rid of the trees for farming, or cutting them down for products that can be made from them is all that they really care about. Just like the fashions of years gone by where the ladies demand for the plumage from a certain species of bird drove that species to extinction, people want to make money, and just don't care about anything else.

Basically it is an over population problem. Those forests just aren't remote, sparsely inhabited areas any more. There are too many people who want to clear their little patch of forest to farm, or cut wood to sell, or whatever. And of course there are big companies that have influence with the government doing the same thing on a larger scale.

Partly because the people who live there are very poor, and desparate. They will look at the very short-term goal of doing what they have to to feed their families, rather than be concerned about the long-pterm affects of their activities on the world. (and I can't blame them. To solve the problem, we also need to solve thiers)

each and all of the not basic heads that don't hear to what those with straight forward sence that comprehend how lots medican comes from there and how many animals are in probability. That and how lots pot they could make from those plant leaves there destroying they could make! ;)
