If I can find an adaptor to connect the tank to my compressor, could I use regular compressed air with my semi-auto paintball gun instead of CO2?

NO, do not try and fill your CO2 tank from an air compressor, an air compressor doesn't create CO2, it is just air. Your CO2 tank is not rated for that, and therefore would be dangerous to do. If you don't want to use CO2, fine, go buy a HPA (compressed air) tank, that is what they are built for.
Also, do not attempt to fill your HPA tank with your home compressor. The average home compressor will barely get over 200psi, most paintball markers won't operate that low, and it could also harm the tank. The average HPA tank will fill up to 4500psi, some are 3000psi.
Leave filling tanks to people who know what they are doing. Messing with these things could cause serious if not fatal injuries if improperly done. Paintball is a very safe sport, if you follow common sense and follow the rules.

As long as it can be compressed to the same pressure as a co2 tank, I don't see any reason why it wouldn't work exactly the same. As long as we are talking air, here, and not o2. O2 is extremely flammable, and that may be a bad idea.

yeah nitro can be used but 3000 psi olny use 4500 will blow it
co2 is safer and is easier to handle
