I have a friend who practically yells when on the phone. I asked her about it once, and she said she just talks as loud as the background noise from the people she's talking to. So when I used her phone, I turned the volume down, thinking that would help. But she talked even louder next time.
Even when she's not on the phone, she tends to talk very loud. How do I tactfully tell her she's talking to loud? I've tried jokingly saying things like "indoor voice," but nothing seems to get through to her.

It's not just when I'm on the phone with her, it's when she's on the phone w/ anybody. I can hear her through the wall and down to the end of the hall sometimes

She may have hearing problems. People who can't hear themselves that good tend to talk louder because they think that others won't hear them. I have a friend like your friend who talks so loud. I've told him to get his hearing checked, but never did. Just ask her if she's had her hearing checked latily. lol, but don't just come out of nowhere, just work it into conversation. If not, then just tell her that you would appreciate it if she would talk a little lower. That's what I do....sucks but whatever.

She may be right, some people come from large families where everyone is trying to be heard at the same time. If she's a good friend just keep telling her, " you don't have to shout I'm right here and I'm listening to you" If you do it enough times she may lower her voice. I had a friend that I just loved my whole life with this problem and she has gotten better, but if shes got other people talking around her she still shouts. I also agree with the girl that said talk softer.

Black human beings communicate loud. i do not study about unfavorable. those who come from a higher social type have extra preparation in manners for one ingredient. and human beings from the decrease instructions might want to correctly be somewhat uncouth, yet no longer all of them. a number of it has to do with the point of intelligence too and how properly they could mix in with the middle type. and that i might want to wager that some unfavorable older human beings can no longer have adequate money a listening to help might want to communicate loud... and those who artwork in factories for decades with loud kit, have a tendency to yell too.

I have that problem. Sometimes I talk too loud. I don't mean to and I try to work on it, but I dunno. It could be something wrong with her hearing, and she might not know it or it's just a rude habit that sucks and she's gotta learn to break it...

I used to have a problem with speaking too loudly. I have a big family and they're all yellers, so I didn't realize it until I moved away. My roommates helped me by whispering any time I started speaking too loudly. They didn't say anything to me, they just dropped their voices to whispers. I'd notice the difference in my tone and theirs and lower my voice to normal speaking tones. It helped me a lot!
