Funny how any substance that is not copacetic is banned by religion. How convenient!

Alcohol is just a substance. You do not go to hell just by consuming it. The reason it is not advised to consume it due to the effects it has on the drinker. When you take alcohol, you lose concentration and balance. You not only pose a risk to your won self but also to others. A person under the influence of alcohol may also end up doing things which he/she would not normally do. Last but not least the health impact of too much alcohol, someting we all know about.

If you need to drink, go ahead but drink wisely. Enjoy life but have some self control.

Man has some strange religious beliefs and standards of conduct concerned with those religious doctrines and disciplines. They all vary widely! Islam and Mormons cannot drink alcohol, as far as I know! Christianity in general, does not actively ban alcohol consumption. Wine is the drink of choice at Communion, is it not? But overindulgence in anything, can turn the innocent into the idiotic, so perhaps, this is the reason for the banning of alcohol. It does affect the mind and alter one's abilitiy to be rational. But I don't think anyone will truly go to hell for alcohol consumption. They will rather sentence themselves to hell on this Earth, by overdoing it for themselves. When alcohol becomes your life, I'd say there's the entrance to hell, unless one changes one's preoccupation with destroying the quality of one's life! Alcohol cannot build the man, it can only progressively reduce his mind and spirit and soul! OK, casually, but otherwise, it could really be "devil in a bottle"! Sip, but don't glut!!!

Oh...Christians can drink, why else would Jesus turn water into wine? Obviously, if he can perform the miracle of turning water into wine, he condones drinking it...not too excess. Are three or four glasses of red wine excessive? No, I don't think so.

I would love to know why some people gamble, smoke, drink excessively, use drugs, sleep around, steal, lie, hate, become jealous, have bad tempers, swear, become verbally abusive and are obsessed with money, pornography and violent television, and yet, do not see that this type of behavior is very much against any religion.

I am a liberal person, too. I am pro-choice and not against gay marriage or divorce. I am not bothered by single parenthood and do not judge or hate teenage girls who get pregnant. We should try to help them more. I don't oppose a couple living together if they don't have kids and/or their kids have grown and are divorced. Still, I find that type of behaviour completely inappropriate for a religious and/or spiritual person.

For many religions... the reason why Drinking alcohol is discourage is not the alcohol itself, but the actions that result from taking TOO MUCH of it.

Drunk people can get violent and harm others physically, and also due to loosened inhibitions can result in saying ahrmful things and most of all.... Self-Embarassment, all which the "drinker" will regret upon "awakening"

:)

Catholic rituals involve the use of alcohol. I drank wine at Church years before I was old enough to legally drink. Catholicism (which I no longer practice, although I still drink wine) is very friendly to alcohol - just ask an Irish priest.

In Buddhism clarity of mind is the most important thing so something that alters that is to be avoided.

That said, I have definitely had experiences where *the day after* drinking my mind feels clearer than before I went drinking.

So, it's probably like most things and whether it is 'good' or 'bad' depends on the condition of ones mind.

Well as a Muslim i believe that In the end it is God who decides who goes to hell or heaven, one good act or a bad one doesn't have to decide fate. That being said in the heaven the alcohol won't have any detrimental effects it has on our bodies in this world!

In Christianinty, you can drink, but just don't get drunk and it will typically just make you a bad Christian or a bad person, that is why the apostles advice all believers not to.
