You have to have Adobe Acrobat

Adobe Reader will only allow you to open and read the file. In order to change or edit the file you must buy Adobe Acrobat which is the program used to create and edit *.PDF files.

A pdf document is the final product. A pdf file cannot be edited or changed. The original document is created using another application, such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Photoshop, etc, and 'made' into a pdf document using Acrobat Writer or other pdf creation applications to prevent other people from making any changes to it.

If you have Acrobat Writer, a pdf file could be saved into another format, such as rtf (which then can be opened by Microsoft Word), if no security is applied to it. In such case, you can make changes to the new saved file and print it. If the document is mostly text, there should be no problem but the layout may be affected if there are pictures and graphics. The free Acrobat Reader can't do this function.

I am not sure why you say the pdf document can't be printed in black. If the printer has run out of black ink, it will use the other colors to print as close to black as possible, usually very dark gray. This wastes the costlier color inks but the document will still get printed.

If you have pitstop, you can do it.
Or if you Illustrator, you might be able to convert it, but then you will need all the fonts and images as well.
