puppy's have to go outside all the time every time you change activity's they need to go outside. Crate training has worked well for me they only go in the crate for sleep or destress time. do not ever put them in there if they are bad, its there safe haven. This may take quite awhile I am sure she will be better in a few weeks but there will still be accidents. You need to keep the crate in a social place not left in the kitchen or anything. The crate needs to be big enough to turn around in but not to big were they feel they could pee in the corner. Do not let them out when they cry or whine its enforcing negative behavior. You also will want to get the dog leash trained the proper way as soon as possible. This is the hardest and most demanding of us not to pull and to walk along. Good luck its like having a baby in the house. I am still getting up at 6:30 to walk the dog and I work late nights. I just got my kids to sleep through the night now I got the dog waking me up when she needs to go out. She is 3.75 months old now Sheppard

The first step is to buy a crate that he can stand in, turn around
in and sleep comfortably in. If it is to large he will potty in it because he can get away from it. You want a crate that is good for his size now.
Please socialize him a lot. Give the mailman a treat to give him, have kids pet him, take him for walks and let people make over him. This breed has a tendency to not be nice to people outside the family and by socializing him will hopefully make him a happier dog.
He should be in the crate during the night and when you are not home. When you are home, he needs to go outside every 45 min or so and right after he eats. If he goes potty he needs a lot of praise.
I would go to the library and get a book about springer pups or a training book about puppies. The process takes as long as it takes. Good Luck!

The Englsih Springer Spaniel is a huge canines! i for my area haven't any journey with the breed besides the incontrovertible fact that, I stay by utilising a canines park that all of us know those that have Springers. they're extreme energetic canines, great for looking and swimming yet in addition they are great considerable different and family individuals canines. The breed is amazingly nicely behaved and are rapid novices. an significant factor with thinking getting the English Springer is which you will want to maintain there minds inspired by utilising coaching them new tricks and fidgeting with them usually. i might rather recommend the Springer spaniel as a canines!

well, it's going to take some time for him to become comfortable in your house. the most important thing is to have patience. feed him on a schedule and take him out about 10 minutes after he is finished eating, and every 5 minutes after that until he does his business. going out many times during the day is important too if he has water freely available to him. to crate train him, you want to make it comfortable for him, put bones and toys in there, and don't lock him in there too soon or he will think it's a punishment. he will eventually make it his own little den and like to go in there. he will whine and cry at night if he is in a crate but this just comes with having a puppy. there is no set time for how long it will take, but just remember to be patient. he will get there.

You can house train them pretty quickly, the problem is they have tiny little bladders and can't "hold it" for very long.
Usually they have accidents until they are around 4-5 months old.
Remember that the first year to year and a half is the hardest with puppies.
English Springers are a high energy breed. Please look into obedience training and buy a bicycle or running shoes.
Good luck

ofcourse he's not he's only a baby...put paper down by the door u'll be taking him out. i'll asume ur in a house....u will have to watchim and alway take the pup out right after he eats or drinks.. when u see him potting on the floor stop him in the middle of it. take by scruff of neck little shake (like Mamma dog would do) say NO OUTSIDE firm growl don't scream. take out side let him do it out there..also instead of tossing poop in garbage put it out side so he can smell it things will connect oh thats where the poop goes...
how long just like kids boys take longer then girls...it depends on ur dog and YOU!....
i hope u know of the breed atleast they need LOTS of exersize..they are a hyper dog....i hope u can take him to a trainer as it seem u do not know much...i'm not tring to be rude but MOST dogs at the shelter are there because the owners didn't take the time to train the dog and themselves..

Good luck i wish u and ur new pup many long years

Get him a crate large enough for him to stand up in, but not much larger.

When you open the crate, take him immediately outside and don't let him in until he goes to the bathroom (assuming you're not just putting him in there for an hour).

Then reward him with praise and let him inside.

It will take a while, but it's worth it.
