I think what that means is that if you work hard and educate yourself... none of your hardships in the past or none of your sheltered life is going to matter... all that matters is what's going to happen in the future which will only be good things if you work hard and educate yourself.

It means that no matter where you come from (Ex. If you were brought up poor with very little) all you need is to get educated and work hard and not give up and set your goals high and you can become something great.
(Get educated and work hard and even if you were brought up in a poor family you can become a doctor or a lawyer or anything you want)

Wether you are rich or poor, live in the slums or a castle it doesn't matter,if you work hard and study you can do just as good as the other. If you come to the slum and you study, you can be come famous or go on to better things. As can the rich .

I think it means that it doesnt matter if you are poor, rich, what race you are or sexual prefernece you are. If you work hard on education whether in school or in life then it is all that matters. Improving yourself and becoming a person you are proud to say you are.
