If God truly does exist, why can't I believe? Does this make me a realist? Agnostic? Atheist?

What is it that I have to do in order to find this faith that everyone speaks of? I used to try. When I was younger (I'm 31 now) I used to pray and HOPE that there was actually someone out there listening.

People have told me that it's instinctual, they've always just known. Others say they found him in later years.

Why don't I get it when so many others do? And if I never do get it, what then? Does that mean that God doesn't exist for ME?

Sorry all, I'm a religious moron...

I studied religion in college; Hinduism, Buddhism, Confuscianism (sp), Taoism, Daoism, etc. What made sense to me are the belief systems that are more of a philosophy on life.

Moron, no. Ignorant, perhaps. Searching, sounds like it to me.

You are a realist, that you are needing something more. Something of purpose to drive you and give you focus. There are many stories in the Bible about them and their encounter with God. I would suggest reading in the first four books of the New Testament and then continue on if you feel so inclined.

Keep praying and hoping and seeking. The Bible promises seek and you will find. Knock and the Door will be opened.

I do not want to sit here and pound scripture at you or pump you full of hollow sounding words. It took a car crash for me to get a clue and I was attending Church regular so if anyone was a religious moron it was me. I was also 21.

Feel free to email me anytime you feel the need and I will try to help you as I can.

No, you are not a religious moron. You have come to a very practical conclusion about God. While this is an extremely complex issue, many people that claim they found God, simply say that because nothing else makes sense to them. They can't understand why we exist or how things came to be. For them, the only logical answer is that some supernatural being created it. This is flawed for many reasons. For one, there is no evidence of a 'God'. Second, throughout all of history, each culture has had their own incarnations of what God should be. For that reason, it makes more sense that this God is actually something made up in humans minds to give them an answer to their questions.

My advice to you is that you do more research, learn as much as possible, and come to your own conclusions. I do feel for you when you ask if your left out, because I am atheist myself. It's best if you find people with similar views and discuss with them. Hope this helps, and good luck on your journey!

You have to have an open-heart in order to let God into your life and LOTS of faith and LOTS of patience! I was raised in the Catholic faith and attended Catholic school. I told God to literally go to hell for 15 years. Then my eyes and heart were opened 3 yrs ago. It's a personal journey, a personal process. No one can teach you to have faith. But praying to the Holy Spirit helps you on your journey. The Holy Spirit is God's advocate and He will help guide you to where you need to go. Are you baptized? Maybe you can join a bible study group at a church or a Christian book store and just listen and learn and ask all your questions.

Good luck and God bless!

There isn't an answer to your questions. I am 65 years old and haven't gotten it and don't expect that I will. I will have to work out my only life out without the help of spiritual guidance from above. I suppose it would be easier if we all had someone to blame for the way our lives play out but I was taught to take responsibility for my actions. I was taught that God helped those that helped themselves and when things didn't go good it was God's will. What happened to me being responsible for myself? See this is why it is time to stop trying to believe in something that doesn't make sense.

you are not a religious moron, if you are searching for Gods existence, then something is already moving in you. We tend to want to make things happen and understand things that cant be explained. Let go and lt God work in you.

...At least you are seeking and asking questions. I was at age 20 or so, where you are now. I started asking questions, wondering about life, what was right and wrong. I had nothing much I could trust in. Things at home were unhappy; friends and family had moved away, and I was looking for something to grab onto, that would always be there for me.
...I began to read the Bible; I liked what I saw, and found I was unable to practice it.
...Finally, on Jan 1 of 1978, I went back to a church where I had attended as a young teen.
...The pastor's message was on happiness.
...He said, "Where is that found?" Webster's dictionary says it's found in wealth and good fortune. Well, I know weatlthy people who aren't happy, and fortunate people who aren't happy."
...And I was unhappy, too.
...I asked him after the service if I could speak with him. Five minutes later we began to talk.
...I told Rev. Jones I was not happy. He asked if I was a Christian.
...I told him I thought so.
...He asked me what I thought a real Christian was, and I saw someone who tried to follow the teachings of Jesus Christ. He said a Christian certainly tries to do that, but he also explained that there is more to being a Christian.
...I found out from what He shared and from a little booklet called the 4 Spiritual Laws that:
...* all of us are sinners (Romans 3:23)
...* the wages of sin is death (separation from God) Romans 6:23
...* God is loving and also a just judge and must punish sin (Exodus 34:7b)
...* that Jesus, who is God in the flesh, was born to die for our sins, was buried, and was raised for us. He paid the full price for sin, and is God's only provision for man's sin,
...* So what is left to do - the answer is believe, believe on (trust in) the Lord Jesus Christ as Savior.
...He invited me to pray ask Christ to save me from my sins. I did that day ask Jesus to save me and make me the type of person He wanted me to be.
...I have never been the same since.
...I am happy and secure in Christ. I have the Holy Spirit to help me live the Christian life. I have a wonderful peace and joy, and real purpose for living, with Jesus as my Lord. I have a home in Heaven.
...I urge to trust in Christ also.
...Whosoever will, may come.
**********************************************
**********************************************
...When you do trust in Christ, begin to read the Bible, pray, and find a good church where the Bible is taught, where Christ is Lord, and where you can grow as a believer.
...I would count it a privilege to help you in your spiritual life, if you email me.

Maybe its religion that confuses you and perhaps you need to look beyond that and ask God to show Himself to you. All He asks is that we be willing to put our faith in Him. Willingness to have faith is a start. God can do the rest. If He reveals Himself to you, you have to be willing to accept Him and not ignore Him by coming up with excuses or logical explanations. God is Who He says He is, and if He reveals Himself to you and you deny Him, then perhaps you are not willing to know Him.

Apparently, you have a different path.

Enjoy it.

I've always just known that God is a joke. I don't mean that to be snide, but to counter these people of faith that you have spoken to who have always "just known."

You believe what you believe and additional information can lead to an adaptation of your beliefs, evolution if you will, but you can't make yourself believe something. And there are tons of religions out there. Maybe something other than Christianity or any god religion would make better sense to you.

Youre an Atheist my friend or possibly a Deist.
An Atheist is someone who disbelieves in gods
A Diest is one that believes in a divine creator but he left us to be and plays no part in our lifes.

Read the God Delusion by Richard Dawkins
it really helped me cope with it.
