Hi, i am 78 lbs and i'mm an 11 year old girl. I'm not overweight but i think i eat unhealthily. today for dinner we were watching the oscars and i had chicken, salad, 4 cookies and 2 very small slices of cake. i dont normally eat like this but when i'm excited i eat a lot. If i am overweight, how much so? Also, what are good ways to exersise? I have a busy schedule so i dont have much time because in school we have 15 minutes to exersise and 3 times a week we have PE. After school i play soccer agaisnt the wall for about 20-30 minutes. (not everyday, it depends how much homework i have so it varies but normally everyday when i get home) Thank you so much this really means a lot to me!

if you are 11 and are 78 pounds you are not overweight. Instead of playing soccer, try jump roping for 5-10 minutes. food can be burned off.

First off you are NOT overweight, and don't let anyone tell you any different. You sound pretty average for an 11 year old. You seem to be active and aware that exercise is important, and you are doing what you can. There's nothing wrong with eating cookies or cake once in awhile, but pay attention to portions. It's good you recognize when you seem to eat more, that will help you control those situations. Please remember Nikki not to fall into the habit of feeling bad about yourself, fad dieting, crazy weight loss pills or all that other junk that I know is right there in your face. That stuff causes nothing but problems, and some of it could kill you. Just keep active, eat healthy and don't deprive yourself of any foods. Remember everything in moderation. At the risk of sounding corny, every girl is beautiful the way she is, and no one should feel that they aren't. Those cookie cutter models in the magazines are not realistic, and they are unhealthy. You don't need to look like a Barbie doll, you need to do what makes you feel healthy and happy.

Honey I really don't think weight should be a concern for you. Rather than thinking about weight, think about the other aspects of the problem you want to address. You've already learned more valuable information about this topic than many people twice your age. You've noticed how you eat more when you are excited and you recogize that nutrition and exercise are important - both valuable and mature insights.
Now that you've identified the problem you can put the effort into changing it. Next time you find yourself excited and reaching for food distract yourself with something else. Take a bath, brush your teeth, whatever works for you.
As for exercise, just find some things that you enjoy doing. If you think of exercise as a chore you must force yourself to do you will eventually grow to hate it. If you like being with your friends then find an activity you can all do together, whether on a team or just a regular weekend outing for horseback riding, rollerblading, skiing, bowling, dancing...whatever you might find fun and interesting. You could even do something different each week! If you prefer doing things on your own then you can take a class in yoga, any kind of dancing, martial arts, rock climbing, whatever...
And most of all, stop worrying so much! Putting all that pressure on yourself is only causing your system to be more stressed, which will cause you to overeat and to eat foods heavy in sugar and fat as well. When people are worried or anxious they turn to "comfort foods", so stressing about this stuff will in fact cause you to turn to the very behavior you are working to avoid. Relaxing and not taking all of this so seriously will help you reach you goals. Years and years of medical data have proven this to be true.
Believe in yourself. You are clearly intelligent and, judging by your observations, you have a wisdom you don't yet know you possess. Trust your instincts, do what you know is right and good for you, and above all else ignore what certain sections of society say about how you should look. Focus on overall health, mental, physical and emotional. It's not about weight.
Being overly concerned about outward appearance is what people do when they feel empty inside. Don't listen to them or their idiotic thin-is-in message. You should want a much more meaningful and substantial life for yourself. You are much too special to focus on all that meaningless junk some people try to pass off as important.
Just take care of yourself, in every way.

You didn't say how tall you are. When I was 11, I was about 5'3" and around 115. I was definitely not overweight then. That was 17 years ago and I'm now 5'5" and 125 and I'm still not overweight.

If you weight 78 lbs and you are any taller than 4'6" than you are actually underweight. You would have to be shorter than 3'7" to be considered 'overweight' at 78 lbs. I think I weighed 80 lbs in 3rd grade and I was still taller than 4'6" by then.

No, you are not overweight. At 11 i don't think that you should worry about weight. Just make sure you eat healthy and you exercise regularly. Playing soccer after school is a good idea. I used to be very skinny when i was younger but when i got older i gained a lot of weight because of poor eating habits. So make sure you eat healthy and stay away from junk food and fast food.

you're too young to be TOO worried about this, but u do want to be healthy. salad is a good part of ur meal. chicken is probably good, as long as it wasn't fried. how tall are you? 78 pounds is really little unless ur like 3 feet tall. keep being active. you don't have to punish urself with actual work outs, just PLAY, keep playing soccer, skip around alot, play tag, rollerblade, bike, do whatever, just stay active. and heck yeah, EAT DESSERT, just don't overdo it. 1 dessert per night, (it doesn't matter if slip up everyonce in a while, u gotta celebrate sometimes:) ) im sure ur fine, but don't eat junk food TOO often, maybe once a week. and don't worry about it, just be a kid, because once its over ur gonna wish it wasn't

Whether you're overweight depends on your height / weight / body fat ratio. There are some guidelines you can refer to... this site has some good information about how to determine if you are a healthy weight http://www.cdc.gov/nccdphp/dnpa/obesity/faq.htm#children
Even if you are a healthy weight, you could still be asking for health trouble if you are not eating a healthy diet. It's not just about what you weigh. Especially at your age, while you are growing it is important not to focus only on weight; but instead overall health.

Another site that has some good information is http://loseweight.emofree.com/Healhty_Eating.htm there is information about eating healthfully without stressing about it as a "diet" as well as tips for managing cravings for junk food.

If you are worried about weight though, you should discuss it with your parents as well as your doctor so you can get a plan for managing your weight that is safe and healthy.

obese adult males are actually not rewarded--they have intense ldl cholesterol and finally end up diabetic and debilitated of their 40's. you're making an intense errors in good judgment. you're mistaking a correlation for reason and result, that's user-friendly between sloppy "social" technology varieties. working interior the corporate international is extremely time ingesting--they certainly anticipate you to show the whole existence over to besides the fact that shallow, materialistic interests are needed with the intention to push up earnings and inventory fees. the adult males who do properly in our monetary device often have no existence. they don't have time for wellbeing and proper weight loss plan and characteristic a tendency to kick back with drinks and dangerous nutrition. i can work out this of course between my friends. I, on the different hand, am extra or much less a expert failure, yet i'm nonetheless a aggressive athlete at 40 and characteristic the physique to show it. i could not try this if I donated my entire existence to handling some bull **** company place of work. I do think of that skinny females tend to be taken care of extra effective in our society and that obese adult males are actually not as discriminated against as obese females. yet all obese human beings pay a cost this is extra advantageous than monetary whilst their wellbeing starts to visit pot beforehand.

weight goes more by height and build than age. what kind of chicken matters alot. eating too much junk food at once not good even if it isn't normal. i think we're all guilty of that though. how about riding a stationary bike or tread mill in front of that TV? If there is time for TV, there is time for exercise. weightlifting, running in place. It might drive your parents nuts, but maybe you can get them going on it to. It would beneffit all of you.

We can't tell you exactly if you're underweight or not because you don't mention your height. But for normal 11 year old, 78 lbs is not overweight, unless you're really short like 4'.
