I was afraid of my parents. They hit and yelled all the time. There was no hugs, no love, no I love yous, no snuggling, no bedtime stories. I have raised my kids in a 360 direction. I know my children do not fear me yet they respect me because respect does not come from fear, it comes from love. My kids know I love them because I say it a lot and show it a lot. I praise my kids daily and they have the self esteems to prove it! My kids will not walk through life with bad memories and wondering whether or not I even loved them.

That's a hard one.
I think the thing that I wish my parents did to me was praise me more or even once for a job well done. I have tried to tell my kids everyday something that they did well or how much I appreciate them.
The one thing my parents did for me that I will keep and pass on is the value of money and how to respect what I have earned by hard work.

Always listen and truly be interested in what they are saying. Most importantly how to make good life decisions. Give them encouragement, moral support, push them instead of ignoring them, give my time and not make so many excuses why I can't do this or that. I was never handed a lot cause Mom didn't have it to give so I will teach them if they want something they will have to work of it. Not to wait for it cause it's not going to come to them or fall in there lap.

I will retain:
value for money- I'm not sure how they did it, but i sure do value every cent I have.
Also- if I made a mistake, I knew it was okay, as long as I could fix it. My mom would always say, "it's okay" and would have me help her fix it... ex. spilled milk on floor, i'd help her clean it up, until i was old enough to do it alone, etc
I would also give more encouragment. more praise.

I would have a warm relationship with my husband that provides a good example of what love is and can be. Teach them honesty and trust. Tell them I love them everyday and make sure they have no reason to doubt it. Let them make their own mistakes. Let them learn from my stories. Answer their questions with honesty. Show true emotion.

I will always put my kids first in any decision I make, I'll think of how it could effect them. I'll teach them that it's ok to love and it's ok to lose that love, because that is one of lifes main lessons.
