Since self-mutilation is a serious, yet widely unregognized, issue, I am planning on giving a presentation about it to my school. I am in JR. High, which is another reason I'm giving it. 11-14 year olds are stupid about this kind of thing.
Anyway, it would really help me if I could give some statistics of self-mutilation. However, I've looked and I can't find any. Does anyone have a website that could give me stats?

Search African women customs or places like remote Amazon tribes I suppose- they have been victims of forced and voluntary mutilation for quite some time. It's usually involved in cults, rituals, and sacrificial rites. Some examples will be too graphic for Jr High so use disgression. As for stats you will have to guess for yourself. Project the amount of population involved in demonology, satanism, witchcraft and so on. That should get you into the ballpark. (In parts of Africa girls your age have their labia scraped and their legs wrapped tight... I think you can guess the rest).

Type in Borderline Personality Disorder. Self Mutilation or Parasuicide as it is sometimes referred to is a SERIOUS and addictive problem especially among young girls your age. Good for you for your interest in prevention. Good Luck.
