You need to make it a very positive experience for her when you call her and she does come to you. Many owners call their dogs over to smack them or yell at them. To make your dog want to come running when you call, she needs to associate coming to you with treats or lots of hugs and attention.

The running in the opposite direction is a good idea....Make a game of it.

If she is not interested in that, try getting down on the ground and talking in a high pitched sweet voice (baby talking) Say anything as long as it sounds sweet, make sure you are down and even pat the ground with your hands. She should come over to you. When she does, don't grab at her right away. Keep talking and scratch under her chin. If this is working you can start petting her to where you are going to be able to pick her up. Once you have her, the BIGGEST mistake people make when their dog comes back to them is scolding them....Let's think about it the dog does what you tell it to and then gets in trouble...Why the heck does it want to come back the next time! Praise her for being a good girl and take her inside.

Now she can only go outside with you on a leash and collar until you can contact a trainer to help with the rest of the issues!

Good luck I hope you catch her.

Terriers are very smart and very stubborn.
You need obedience training and a leash. These dogs are known for their high energy and disobedience.
A lunge line used for horses should work nicely. Just don't let her chew through it.
There are special collars you can get to keep her from barking.
Look into an Invisible Fence. It will keep her close to the house, and penned in smaller section of your larger yard for easy capture.

If you have canned dog food maybe try that,or if she likes to go for a ride in the car get her in the car and put the chain on her and bring her in the house. The only other thing is when you get her you'll just have to leave her chained all the time. Good luck!

Does she like to go for a ride in the car? That is how we would get our dog back when she got loose. We would open the car door and in she would jump! Yes, she was not wrapped too tight. lol!

Seems like your dog has tasted freedom and is keeping it as long as she can but there are dangers for a dog in the outside and the sooner you get her in the better for all. You will have to resort to a Trapping Cage-if you have a Pound can rent one fo approx $10-20.dollars which you get back when you return the cage. But make sure no mistake made and you get one for a dog then place a piece of meat whichever she loves the most into it-the food gos into the back of the cage and when the dog goes in to get it she'll trip the trapdoor which closes behind her and she can't get back out. Its a very humane trap and she will not get hurt BUT you may trap other animals before you trap her like a possum etc. If you do open the trap door by the lever but either wear thick gloves or wrap towel around hand and arms to protect when you do this and the animal will get out and run of-do not yourself take out of the cage for a scared animal bites. If there is a pound or Rescue Organization near you talk with the manager esp if its the pound so you can explain the situation and get the cage for a longer time for the average time is 7days and may take longer. Is it possible for you to be able to prop the door open with food and water near so she has to go into the house to get for even though she is now cherishing her freedom (some dogs are escape artists and do this every chance they get-like my dog and why I no longer have the dog have the opportunity to dash out the fron t door but have a baby gate installed in front of it so can't dash out but we can step over or unlatch-you may want to consider once she's safe inside for dangers lurk outside and you do not want this to happen all the time for me it was just too stressful.Whatever you do as lonmg as she is outside do not yell or speak harshly to her---talk softly and lovingly for once she gets tired and hungry and thirsty enough she'll come but you do not want to scare her. When my dog used to do this would stay outside ready to pounce when he came near and after he'd run around the neighborhood long enough I'd corner him and tackle him. Also used banging the food dish or shaking it with food inside to entice him to come then when close enough i'd grab but you havea to be sure can get her for if you fail to grab it'll take longer to get her.If all fails and you cannot get a cage then call a professional animal trapper-they trap animals humanely in the type of cage I described. and they will catch for a fee Better than having your dog get lost. Good Luck!

if it is bothering u for ur dog to be out at night and u cant get her to come to u when u call, maybe she needs to be on a chain....then u can get her when u want her to come in and put her outside without having to chase her down.....maybe u could get a invisible fence just to make sure she dont get out of the yard to get ran over or run down the road for someone to steal her!

well, if the treats didnt work for my dog, he would'a been LOOONNGG gone!
what i think you should do is sit on the step and hopefully the dog will sit down and just stare at her. she will eventually give in, and come to you, but a plate of food don't hurt either!

i have a herding dog and it sounds weird but try running in the opposite direction of her. or opening the car door making her think you're taking her on a ride.
