I am through Volunteer San Diego, based on the NY Cares model of volunteering. I can sign up to do projects whenever I have time, without committing to 2 hours a week every week. It's a great way to try out different projects and help out various groups in the community.

A volunteer is a person that offers services without pay. I am a habitual volunteer. I today cleaned some at the local Humane Society and took papers home to copy and print on my home computer.

I have two fabulous Girl Scout troops which I am the leader of (1 daisy 1 brownie). I also visit other meetings of other troops and train leaders to be leaders and take their girls camping with safety and fun in mind.
If the previous definition of volunteerism is correct, I technically don't fit the bill as a volunteer. I don't make any money, but I get paid in smiles and they are invaluable to me. (Yes...so cheesy, but true...I highly recommend this to anyone. You don't have to be a mom to be a leader or volunteer for this organization.)

I coach swimming and track and field for the Summer Special Olympics for the mentally retarded, and have done so for 5 years in a row. I also have volunteered for different political campaigns, and thoroughly enjoy community activities.
