Cyril Winscott served on Ark Royal and was Mentioned in Despatches when she was sunk viz ”SPO C Winscott was in the port boiler room for very many hours and worked cheerfully and calmly throughout, steaming this boiler under appalling conditions until it was finally shut off. Having been ordered up he left the boiler room and then heard a sound from the Senior Engineer who was in a state of collapse.
