I find this position much more comfortable than sitting, but have been warned that it causes your eyes to strain more if you're reading on your back (like on a bed). Can anybody please clear this up for me?

I've never heard this before, either, but I do have a theory or two. When you are on your back, you are doing one of two things:

1. If you are flat on your back and holding the book up, your arms will tire, and the book likely will not be getting a full amount of light if you are not using a lamp. The lack of light would cause your eyes to strain.

2. If you have your head propped up, then your neck and upper back are at an awkward position. Over a period of time, this will mess up your spine. Say hello to frequent visits to the chiropractor!

Seems like common sense.

It is the angle of your neck and where your eyes have to focus..that is important. If you know that position will cause strain..(and your body will tell you..just pay attention to it)
