i have a miniture chihuhua named Zoe Lynn and when we first got her she suffered many siezures and we think she suffered a stroke cause she is a little dense and she always sticks her tounge out on one side only...if you put her by your face to lick you she can only do it on one side...anyway since she is not so smart we can't potty train her so we bought her diapers, well the diapers keep falling off, so i put her bathing suit on her to see if that would keep the diapers on. Well i guess the bathing suit irritaed her and now she has like a sore mark/ dry skin on her side. Can i put lotion on it? Its not an open sore or anything, it just looks like she scratched it too much....any advice would help and with the diapers too.... I don't want to give her away but i don't want her having accidents on my carpet and she is soooooo small to take her in the cold to potty and the pads don't work....she always forgets to go on them and i hate to yell at her since she was so sick in the past :(

and yes she does miss the pads cause she sleeps in the laundry room at night and we close the door and she still can't go on the pad, she goes in her bed or on the floor........just for clarification..........i don't think that i would make that up lol

I tried the premie diapers and they fell off, so then we bought her a $30 diaper from petsmart that is washable and that falls off, and then we bought the back of doggie diapers that we like $15 and they fall off too. I tried putting my daughters panties with the ruffles to see if that would hold them on but it doesn't, she just scoots herself on the floor to take them off...and I always feel like i have her locked up... I have a 2yr old and an 8 mo old who play on the carpet.

it sound like your dog has hemisphere damage so one side is damage. She could just have a physical problem. I knew some people who I went to school with like that. Good at spelling and reading but had hemisphere cerebral palsy.
Put plastic over the carpet and tape it down. or try a wooden floor.
And yes there is cream you can use ask your vet for what they advise there could be something new on the market

Diaper rash cream is better. A & D ointment (not the one with Zinc Oxide) is great and harmless if swallowed.
First I want to say you are so great for going the extra mile for the little girl. Most folks would have her put down and get another pup.
OK, diapers.
Have you tried tape? A strip of electrical or Duct tape around her waste like a belt should work. Don't tape the diaper to the dog, of course, and make sure it's not too tight, but it's worth a try.
Also, plastic pants.
They go over cloth diapers to prevent leaks. They're plastic (go figure) and have elastic at the waist and legs to hold them on. Get them at Target or a specialty baby store. You could also get them from the diaper services. Look in the phone book.

they have little enclosures almost like a playpen for dogs. try putting that in your kitchen, line it with the potty pads, and see if she'll go onthem. line the whole area. if she's going in her bed, then she just may not have any control. don't yell or anything i think she just can't help it.maybe your diapers are too big. are you using baby or dog diapers? you may have to get the smallest diaper you can find and modify it.
poor baby i'm so glad you aren't giving up on her
best of luck. i hope i offered some help
a chihuahua is so tiny that i don't know if human baby stuff will work? even premie things. but i do like the tape idea. take a small, small diaper, and cut it down at the waist if you have to, then tape around it like she said. could most likely get a good snug fit that way

This is a problem I like the idea of tape on the diapers to keep them tight and keep them from falling off. You understand that you may need to find her a new home thoe, you have two small kids that play on the floor that's not good. You should get a small crate just enuff room to turn around in as soon as you let her out rush to the door to let her out. She might not be able to be trained in a crate or litter box with the stroke and all sorry ???????????

I am so sorry about your dog honey but best thing for the dog is to seek professional help and ask a veternarian. You need to get the best thing possible for her. For now you definitly should try a softer approach on trying to keep on the diaper. Some pet stores carry some kinds of panties. you can definitly try to get a softer bathing suit . Also you really should not put lotion on your dogs skin because animal dkin reacts differently from human skin. So you can use botanical wash for dogs... its a big green bottle for dogs and it helps any skin problems, rashes, bites, scratches etc. until u get to a vet. well i hope i helped sweetie take care and i hope your dog gets better

I would just give your vet a call and ask what you can and cannot put on her irritation. Have you tryed litterbox training? You can get a big litterbox, put some litter in it, or newspaper shreddings with a puppy pad underneath and train her to use that.

If you want to try litter box training thats a very good site.

If you decide not to do litter box training, the only other thing i could think of is to ask your vet for some suggestions.

I hope everything works out!

yeh, it does sound dumb

why fuss with the diapers at all, stick her in the kitchen when you arent watchin her, she poops the size of marbles, and i doubt she is forgetting to use the pads,

diapers are humiliating for both of you
and there is no such think as a miniature chihuhua

keep her in a carrier when you're not with her. it's a basic instinct for them not to go in their own small space (and it isn't mean to do this). call a vet to see what ointments you can use on dogs. their skin reacts differently than ours to antibiotics.
