To get a job in Colorado you need to be PSIA level one certified at least. Unless you are able to impress the right guy on the right day. **BE WARNED** You will not make enough money as an instructor to live off of. Resort town lodging is VERY expensive. A 2 bedroom condo is over $1,500 a month to rent in many towns. Also, you don't make jack for instructing as you only get paid when you teach a lesson. But if you have some money saved up and you want a cheap way to ski and work out West go ahead and go out. It's not the glamorous job that it's made up to be. You most likely will need another job like as a bus or taxi driver to help pay for the bills. I would become an instructor at a local hill if you have one and get your level one through them and then move West if you want to.

Most western resorts REQUIRE that you become PSIA level 1 certified.

Check with the specific resort. Some resorts will hire you on as an apprentice while you work towards your level 1. Not a glamorous job...but it beats not instructing at all.

you should become PSIA certified. there are three levels, each with increasing difficulty. there is a written test and then there is a snow test, where you teach a practice lesson and are evaluated by a judge on how well you do.

i just passed my level I certification this year. seeing as you are teaching out in colorado, i would definetely recommend becoming at least level I certified before teaching. it will look good on your resume to prove you are capable of teaching a proper skiing lesson.

best of luck with this!
