The Corsica is a bit bigger vehicle but I think I would go with the Cavalier.
For one thing they no longer make the Corsica so parts are probably more expensive and harder to find.
The Cavalier has been around forever. A lot better gas mileage and relatively cheap to fix.
The fact that it's 3 years newer and only $700 more is a plus.
You might be able to negotiate it down to $1800 or $1850.
The insurance should also be cheaper on the Cavalier.

I had an 89 Corsica and an 92 Pontiac Sunbird (same car as Cavalier, more or less), and they were reliable cars. I was able to travel cross country with the Sunbird and put thousands of miles in it. I had to sell the car because I had to move abroad and I still regreting it.
Don't pay more than 1k for any of them, and of course take them for an inspection. Don't pay more than 1k for a Civic or Corolla of the early nineties.

My first car was a Cavalier Z24..... it rattled like crazy, had high wind noise and got crappy gas mileage.... but was fairly reliable before I sold it at 140k miles.
But for $2000, you're better off buying an older Acura or Honda. 1990-1993 Integra/Accord/Civic are extremely reliable and far more refined than the cars you listed.

Agree on they both are junk to worth more than 1000. $2000? just go look something like a toyota camry... GM's car are junk after 10yrs/150k.
It'll cost you money and time to travel to shop. Besides, comparing GM to the two import. after a GM is fixed and come out of the shop, you will just go back again with the same problem 2 monthes later. Toyota or Honda, you fix it, then its fixed for yrs...
buy neither, cuz with that money, you can get a better used car than that...
