I have a blue silicon muffin tray and after using it about 10 times I have noticed that the part where the muffins actually touch the silicon it is nearly clear. I did some research and apparently the dyes they use in it are soluble in oil! So you can;'t cook anything with butter or oil in it. I have discovered that Tupperware Brand Silcon baking trays/pans do not have this problem, but they are very expensive.

I've heard the same thing matineeidol has heard about dangerous toxins that are released from teflon coated cookware. It's just a matter of time before they stop making them like everything else, in my opinion. LOL Bart.

If you're talking about Teflon style cookware, I've read about it and they say that if it is not overheated there is no danger. The fumes from overheating it can kill pet birds so be careful of that.

As far as cooking in it, apparently it is inert and doesn't poison the food. This is what they say if you read the manufacturer's websites. I use one just for scrambling eggs so it won't stick. I cook most things in stainless steel or cast iron.

No well at least after it has been used for a while it isnt safe anymore. As soon as it get scratched and the little pieces of the coating start coming off -it should not be used any more - those pieces are really bad for you.

Don't see why not if the silicone was captured humanely and is allowed to roam free when not on duty.

No, after a while it starts to peel off. If you don't notice it right away, you end up eating it!
