I can't believe no one has told you the truth about Venice. It's a great little beach community with a serious ghetto with some serious crime. Now don't overreact here, not all of Venice is bad, but the "hood" as it's known locally is not that safe for someone who doesn't know it. The general rule is....if you find yourself in a neighborhood with short chain link fences you are in the hood. If you end up staying in the hood, don't make eye contact with the guys hanging on the corners after dark for for goodness sake don't stop and ask them directions. Everybody hates a tourist in the wrong zone.

Reseda is in the San Fernando Valley. Venice is on the Westside by the beach. Get ready for traffic. It's not a great commute between the two cities.
Reseda is a so-so area, Venice is nice in some areas.
They are both safe areas. You'll be perfectly fine. The only bad areas in Los Angeles are South L.A, East L.A. and downtown L.A.

Reseda and Venice?
You'll be in for quite a culture shock.
Not to mention the traffic. That's a murderous commute. Better to stay closer to where you're working, then plan a day to play at Venice.
Either place you will be safe. Just keep your wits about you. Don't flash a lot of cash or jewerly, lock you doors, don't get lost, and you'll be fine.

First, that will be a NASTY commute.
I don't know anything about Reseda, since it is in The Valley.
Venice is safe. It's weird...a true beach community. People (not homeless) sleep on the sidewalks.
If you are looking for activity, there isn't too much to do in Venice after hours, since the beach is off season now.
Try West Los Angeles or West Hollywood. From West Hollywood (NOT North Hollywood) you can take surface streets to get to Reseda. It's still a nasty commute, though.

I think anytime you go somewhere that you are not familiar with it's good to always be aware of your surroundings. If you don't feel safe in a certian neighboorhood don't hang around. Get your business done quickly. Don't look lost. Walk with purpose. Know where you're going. Keep your doors locked and windows up. GPS is good to have. I would say that Reseda is probably safer than Venice. But anything can happen anywhere.

you are going to have a long commute
as Venice is near Santa Monica
and Reseda is in the valley which means you will
have to travel on one of LA busiest freeways
(the 405 (also known as the San Diego Freeway)

3 weeks---OK I get it you did not pick this set up for yourself...Well no question about it you will be taking the 405...there is no other likely route..(even the canyon side streets are packed).
As far as being safe, I would say average to both locales....

I have lived on both areas. You must be aware of of what is going on around you and be sure to keep your doors locked.
