She whelped a litter of 6 puppies 2/24/07. She and the puppies are doing great. But as I said, she is letting out blood "clots". I'm not so sure as clots, but blood boogers. They are dark red in color, and no foul odor. Is this just what happens after whelping..I've looked over websites, and they say it's fine. Thanks In advance!!

The blood clots are coming from her vagina.

its normal part of giving birth. i should know done it twice...but it the same for dogs....it should stay dark in color it means it dead blood..old blood...if the clots are huge like over quarter size..u might want to see a vet. or if it turns bright red or pinkish...it will taper off soon...if when she's loose in the house and u don't want blood on every thing...either get heat pants or kid shorts and tie them round her waist..

oh and PLEASE GET UR DOG FIXED!

best of luck

i know horses need to be washed out after birthing. some would have more blood clots washed out than others. she may also change colour to a brownish substance. buzz your vet to make sure.
