I think you need to reask the question asking how much a taxi ride of X miles costs.
55th and 6th to 23rd and Lex cost me $8.40 (without tip) last night with no traffic.

Taxi prices have recently gone up. The biggest part of the increase is, while in the past there was a charge for 'waiting time,' no the same extra charge applies when the taxi is going slow. In most cases it has been a big increase for the same destination. Still, the brdy way to go is by subway; I've even, personaly seen celebrities use it.
Of, by the way, many, many years ago I actrualy drove a taxi part time. Back then you would find many students, musicians and actors doing that as you could go in for a dayt with no cash, and come home with mony. Now the drivers have to lease the taxi, and you only find people for who it is a full time job.
Have fun

Here's a way of calculating. Keep in mind you're charge for miles, unless there are traffic delays and slowdowns. It's all explained below.

Depends where you live. I took a 5 minute cab ride on Long Island and it cost me $25.

in nyc, it depends how you spend the 20 minutes. moving is more expensive than sitting in traffic, and i know that there are some other charges for random stuff, so it really could vary.
