What exactly is it that makes people believe Islam teaches violence and hatred? Terrorists are not a proper example. I'm just wondering why.

Muslimah

Well like earlier this week when the Muslim guy shot the minister woman from Pakistan for not wearing a burka and then everyone says that he is not a radical. I believe them, he was not a radical, he was just a typical Islam believer.

What in Islam forbids this? Islam looks like a hate filled letter and you just cannot find love in it. Yes, it might say something like "allah loves to deceive those who trust him the most", but it does not show love, demonstrate love....and by the way, that claim of being the greatest deceiver is not helping anything.

Well this list goes on and on. We see increasing acts of violence and then there is the claim that they are not terrorists. I guess that means that they are just your typical Muslim?

If you go up to a pack of Muslims and say that they are violent and full of hate, no matter how sincere and loving you are; one can thoroughly expect them to tear you to pieces, set you on fire, and cut your head off screaming "we are not violent! praise be to allah!" (I am of course refering to the Pope's recent speech and the reaction he got).

First of all, Islam does not teach violence and hatred. As a matter of fact there is no religion in the world that teaches such indecency. In my opinion, all those people who think that they are abiding to the teachings of Islam when they blow themselves up are extremely misguided. If you read the Quran you will see that it's message is very lenient. I think the kind of people(extremists) who unfortunately twist the message in relevance with the hatred and ignorance they have for other religions and believers, corrupt their own and others minds into thinking that God will be pleased if you kill a non-believer. This is absolute madness. But, unfortunately some people who lack common knowledge of the expectations of God are subdued into killing, the greatest sin in Islam. I just wish that people would not make a wrong judgment about Islam and it's teachings by looking at extremists and their immoral actions. I would not categorize anyone who spreads hatred and violence under any religion!

The media and prejudice.
It takes a lot of effort to understand the Middle East and its history and even more to see the various conflicts from all of the different points of view. Much easier to place a simple label on a group as Muslim Extremists and once that label is placed to not worry too much about the extremist classifier.
The fact that terrorists are normally members of a particular political faction with a nationalistic agenda gets swept away by the Muslim tag. If you look at any Christian conflict they are always identified by ethnic, political or national groupings rather than as Christian Extremists.

As Christians, we feel that the Koran has twisted much of God's Word. A lot of what Allah commands is contrary to what Almighty God commands.

Unfortunately, the Terrorist who claim your faith as their own has only confirmed that. I personally would love to see the Muslims that DO NOT believe that the terrorists from the Middle East are a good example of their faith to stand up against them and denounce them.

Do Muslims have an equivalent to Satan? I know that we Christians, by the millions, do volunteer work with hospitals, schools, nursing homes, etc....but do you ever see that on TV? No, you just hear about the politics of it all, and I am convinced that Satan does his level best to make sure that's all the world hears.

The Christian Bible says that Satan is the "prince of the power of the air"....well that (to me) says airwaves. Radio, TV, etc. It's probably the same with any faith that tries to do good for the world.

Because people believe the media, and make stupid assumtions based on other peoples opinions, like say, the pope's opinions of Muslims in the era of the crusades.

I think part of it is what everyone has seen on the news. They never show peaceful muslims, only the ones who want to hurt others. Most don't understand that most Muslims are peaceful people who just want to live their lives and be allowed to live what they believe. They are people, just like us. I have many muslim friends, and I find them to be very loving and caring and peaceful people.

Because this is what they see broadcast in the news and on tv, and that's good enough for most. No one wants to look deeper to find the truth.

Sad, but true. I see it around here all the time.

Oh, gee, I dunno, maybe all that stuff about "infidels" being only worthy of extermination or slavery, or the death sentences for adulterous women, or allowing rape victims to be executed. Or maybe, as someone else pointed out, the lack of moderate voices in the religion, apparently due to the fear of being targeted for death by the fanatics. Unless you guys wrest control from the nuts, no one in the civilized world is going to take you seriously as a legitimate faith.
