i have an ear infection and am on antibiotics and i have an incredible amount of pain in my left ear. Like i said i am on antibiotics and also taking a decongestant to try and relieve some of the pressure. I tried putting a hot water bottle on it to relieve some of the pain but it seems to make it worse. Any suggestions?

If you can stand it, you might try putting a little hydrogen peroxide in that ear and laying on your side for a little while to allow it to work. This has helped me in the past.

Also, you mentioned a hot water bottle. Try using a hair dryer on a very low, warm setting and blowing it towards your ear.

Well, some people have a better reaction with a cold compress. It just depends on the person. Definitely take a pain killer (not Tylenol because it won't relieve swelling) to help the pain and lower the swelling and also drink lots of water to help the decongestant. I find that if my right ear hurts, I need to lay on my right side at night and vice versa for the left. Good luck. I hate earaches!!!

There is a pain reliever for that (ear drops) called Aulragan and I may be spelling that wrong. It's prescription only and your doctor should have given it to you. Take a Tylenol tonight and call your doctor in the morning and ask for the med. I'm not sure if this will work but you could call the ER and ask to speak to a nurse, tell her your problem. She may consult a doctor for you and call this med. to an all night pharmacy. Good luck to you.

Try putting some warm sweet oil on a cotton ball and putting that in your ear. You can also do the same with tea tree oil. Also take ibuprofen or naproxen for the pain.

Hydrogen Peroxide will boil out the infection and stop the ear ache. It's good to follow it with warm mineral oil.

Heat, either put a heating pad on your ear, or warm up some camphor and drop in your ear and seal it with a cotton ball, either one will bring you comfort. good luck.
